Issue with high pitch noise in output

In both the headphone and main outs I am getting a high pitched noise. When I go into record mode the noise goes away but is present in every other mode. I've tried turning down the record gain (both knob and button), unplugging inputs and outputs all to no avail.

Looking for advice from anyone who's had this problem before I find an Akai servicer in Philly.

looks like a aound card (pcio) problem
try this:
light up the mpc, load a sequence and a program and let it play in loop for hours.
if after some hours the noise is still there , bring it to the service center. if not, restart it and load other programs to verify that the problem's gone.

I assume you meant pci sound card. I'll try out that suggestion and take it in if need be. Thanks.

Wow. That worked. Let a track play for about 20 minutes non-stop and the noise has disappeared. Thanks for saving me money and time away from my machine.

Can anyone break down the science of why this worked?
