Using the 4k to control external parameters

Can someone share their experience or direct me to the info in the manual about how to use the 4k as a full fledged sequencer, IE: locking external synth parameters like LFO / cut off
to the mp sequencer and using Q link to control external parameters

Q-Link Send was changed in either OS 1.50, 1.5.1 , or 1.60, 1.61. You'll have to check in those OS Addendum manuals
to get the full details on the how the Q-Link can be used to control other instruments parameters.


For a rough sketch,

1) On your main track, Make sure it is assigned to the Instrument you want and when you hit the pad, the external synth triggers
with the sound that you want.

2. Go to Q-Link button

3. Cilck F2 for "Send"

4. ON the Q-Link knob that you want to use, change it to
cc and the cc that your synth parameter responds to.
So for my ATC-1 Filter Cutoff is cc 105.

5. Move Knob and while that Synth is being Sequenced and notice how it now
controls the Filter Cutoff on that external synth.

Now you can also hit Play Start and Record those Knob movements into the Sequence for later playback.
You can record multiple variation of knob movements into different tracks and use Track Mute to swtich the different
automation.

You can also go up to Q-Link Sequence and use Q-Link sequence to sequence 16 different knob changes that will be looped.
So that you can automate a filter sweep that way as well.

Anyway its nice of them to still have all that stuff available for download.

Welcome to our pain! There are years of complaining in this forum about the same thing. Feline actually offered to do the work for Akai free, but they refused to give him the source files needed. Even just merging the addendums into one file would help a lot for easily searching text.

Perfect explanation by bliss on CCs. Once you have recorded them into a sequence, you can change the q-links to other values (in case 6 aren't enough).

you guys seem to know your stuff.
Hopefully I can really learn this machine's secrets via the manual
and by searching the forums.

I have been asking for them to do that since about 2003.

The problem is that Akai went bankrupt and was bought out twice since then.

And they have lost the source files for the original manual and all the Addendums.

They were written in Adobe FrameMaker (industry standard tool for doing user guides etc - http://tryit.adobe.com/uk/framemaker/)

Since the stupid idiots lost the source files, reconstructing a single user guide manually would be a task that would take months rather than days, so nobody has yet been brave and patient enough to do it, not even me.

Believe me, I've made more than one attempt to track down those source files... but it's always come up with a big fat zero.
