Recently (as in a few hours ago) I started working with the MPC 4000. Watched a few videos to get a feel for the OS, and briefly browsed the manual and the search function on this site. I had an MV-8000 a couple years ago and actually had this same issue, and just thought it was a memory issue (I had 1GB installed). When I begin adding tracks over top one another, the samples begin to distort during playback (though the sample in memory remains unchanged).
For example, on track 1, I've got a simple drum pattern sequenced. Next on track 2 is my sampled melody, which is just one 30-second sample that plays from the very first note until all 4 bars conclude, looping nicely at 99.5 BPM. Things are still okay at this point. Now I add track 3, and throw in some percussion hits from another loaded program. Just small flourishes quietly in the background.
This is where things go astray. The sound of track 2 is getting distorted/sharpened, or generally different from it's original form. Also, the snare on track 1 starts smacking harder. Unpleasantly harder. I thought it may have been the 30-second sample overlapping into itself after 1 loop, so I made sure I tweaked down from 100 BMP to 99.5 until there was only a small (unnoticeable) gap in its playback. The annoying part is I've only got 4 or 5 samples actually being played throughout this 3 track sequence, though there are others in memory.
Just wondering if anyone has experienced the same issue or what logic I might be missing. Sorry if it's a re-post, couldn't find any answers.
