Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

dear mpc users,

Just got an mpc 4000 and when I try using the Aksys 2.61 software I get an blank screen.

I have tried verifying permissions on the OSX hard disk .
I have changed the USB cable.
I have tried to find the solution through google search.... and nothing.

What I did notice is that there are some others who had the same problem and then suddenly the problem disappeared.
How ?

Now I am starting to be afraid that something is wrong with the MPC usb.

Have tried using it on a 12 inch and 15 inch power book but the same..just an blank screen like the mpc is not there at all.

I have to say that I use a lot of USB devices and that all of them work OK.

MPC 4000 with the latest OS
AKSYS 2.61

Apple PowerBook 1.5 ,15 inch

thank you

Thank you for your advice, but I can not connect a computer to the front USB.
How did you do that ?

The front USB is of type type A connector and it should not be connected to a computer

Still no luck with the software , waiting for a PC to come by so I can try on it.
The guy I bought the MPC from says he used it for updating the OS so I hope it works and that the problem is in the PowerBooks.

Does anybody on the forum use an Apple 1.5 powerbook PPC to connect to the MPC 4000 ?

These powerbooks are "famous" for not sending enough USB power to the devices so for instance USB harddisks do not work ..... but I am not sure the MPC needs any power to be able to connect , or does it..

Shall try soon with a PC and with my stationary MAC so lets hope its the power book.

have a nice day

I am using 2.61 with OSX 10.5 on a black macbook (2nd Gen). I made sure I installed the driver first and rebooted, then installed the software. My program crashes on file transfers, I think something about moving the mouse over the application window while its transferring files. Its just conjecture at this point but when I don't move the mouse it doesn't crash unless it hits an invalid char. Maybe this will help.

i had the same problem i too have a 4000 and i have a mac pro quad core..at first i thought that the computer wasnt recognizing the mp..what you have to do is make sure u install properly...reboot...after that in order for aksys to read your mpc turn it on(your mpc) and open up aksys(on your computer)..it will then show your mpc..and when u click that icon you can see everything on your machine..i used the port in the back of the machine...when you open aksys you should see it reading your mpc for all the sounds and programs that you have on it...let me know how it turns out and good luck!!!

Thank you for your answers,

well it is still not working and I left it with a technician here in Geneva .. it has been there for a week and I hope he figures out whats wrong.
if not I can use it without the computer connection.

I have tried connecting it to two windows computers and while they see the device as an unknown USB device it refuses to recongnise the drivers .
"the drivers you have selected do not match the usb device hardware" or something like that.

dalkore thank you for your answer.
i have never seen any drivers for MPC 4000 for the OSX platform and there is no info about that on the AKAI site.
what do you exactly mean by installing drivers ?

MPC 4 ME ,

nope had only one file , one program .. had it empty .. had it full same blank screen.
so the bad characters are not the problem but thanks

pop,

I think I installed properly as it is dead simple..and I have tried all the combination of switching software and MPC.

thank you all once more and I shall post if the technician here can help....
I actually wrote to VST in the states and they think the USB is dead ..... they say that then I would have to change the whole mother board .... sending the monster form here to the states and changing the mother board would be very very expensive.

wishing you all a nice day from geneva

grassroots meant you should try the other usb port on the macbook. one of the two usb ports on the macboks are whack. I believe they are underpowered. Its only good to connect your mouse to. So try the other one. Also, try without the USB hub

Happy ending (after 2 and half months)

took the MPC to a local service here in Geneva and was sure it can not be fixed as it was probably an motherboard issue (according to VST).

The tehnician had it there for 2 months !

But after so much time it works now and it is nice to have it working.

Do you believe that after 2 months I took the MPC home and 8 buttons were not working , the screen did not click any more the cd was not wotking ...

I wanted to kill myself and the guy .

After me going back to the shop armed with 10 tons of anger (not necessary he was very apologetic) in two weeks he fixed it properly and now everything works.

Now I can finally produce something with my MPC.
