MSB & LSB Settings with Motif XS 8

Hi Guys,

I tried looking in the many MPC 4000 Manuals and I can't find anything on the MSB and LSB settings in the program chg window. Can someone teach me how I should set these values? I would greatly appreciate it. Please no smart ass comments.

The information on how you should set these will be in the manual for the Motif XS8.

Why don't you tell us what you are trying to do?

MSB and LSB settings relate to PROGRAM CHANGES.

Ok, I pulled out the data sheet for the motif and I see that the presets have the MSB at 63 and LSB goes from 0 to 10. So from what I am seeing I can change the different presets depending on what I select for the LSB, ok I get this. Now my other question is what do the Bank Select, Program change, and Transmist program change in this track do? Can you explain how these would relate to the motif if they do or how they relate to the MPC. Another problem I am having is that the same sound gets played on any track that I record on. I set each track to its own midi channel, and I still can't figure out why this is happening. All help is appreciated.

You are getting there.

I don't own a Motif so I can only give you generic answers. Maybe a Motif user can chime in with some specifics...

The sounds on most synths are organised into several BANKS of up to 127 patches so you may need to select the bank also.

Info on using program changes from the MPC is in the manual so I wont be going into that.

If you are getting the same sound playing back it is probably because your synth is set (by default) to receive midi on ONE CHANNEL ONLY. For multi-channel use you must put your synth into multi-timbral mode. Some synths refer to this as 'Song mode', 'Multi mode', 'Performance mode', 'Combi mode' or something similar and it allows all 16 midi channels to receive midi input independently.

Sometimes it take a while to get your head around this kind of thing, but once you get it you're away...

Alright I figured it out. I didn't have the keyboard set in pattern mode. Another question is the following. I want to be able to load every preset from the motif when I start making beats. So I know that the MSB is now relating to each preset on the motif. I have a total of 64 different presets so I know that I can select from 0 to 64. Within each preset I can select 1 to 128 voices. I understand this now, but I want to be able to load each preset. So from what I think I would need to create 64 different programs and have each program have a MSB from 0 to 63. Then when I select a program I can just change the LSB. Should I create a multi? Would this be the best approach? I have been reading through the documentation and would like to know what you guys think.

Just got off the phone with AKAI rep. He said in order to load up all of the presets from the motif into the MPC I would need to create 64 tracks and assign the MSB and LSB values to each track and save it to the sequence. Would this be the only way of doing it? Not sure what you guys do. Do you guys set the preset from a sound module or keyboard when you need it on the fly?

Just do it from the module, that way you can go through patches quickly without any fuss.

If you take a look at this video, this 2500 user is having the same issue, but he says that he has drum and midi tracks. What would the equivalent be with the 4000. I thought everything is a midi track?
