Can I use multiple Programs in the same sequence

I am already using one program for my drums (ambient set from the akai sound library), I have 4 tracks layed down using this ambient set, now I want to use track 5 to lay down a bass line using another Program.

When I go to track 5 and go down to change the "Part:" parameter from {Ambient set} to {E-bass} all of my perviously layed down tracks using the drum set all turn into Bass sounds.

I thought since i was on a different track that changing the part to E-bass wouldnt effect the previously layed down tracks.

What am i doing wrong?

I haven't gotten my 4000 yet, but you should be able just to go where it says program and change the program to whatever program you want using the jog wheel for whatever track you want within a sequence. That's how the other MPC's work....I think....at least that's how the 1000 works!

in the Track section, where the [Out1: PART] area is you have to make a 2nd part so that it reads Part: 1-Ambient set
Part: 2- EBass

I love this thing, I tried Fruty loops about 3 years ago and everything I tried to make... no matter how hard i tried, ended up sounding like Techno. With the MPC 4000 im already making lots of differnt sounding drum styles, from slow R&B to Hip Hop to Rock. Hardware is the only way to go!

No. You need to be using a multi set up. This way you can use up to 32 different programs at once.

-Press the MULTI button.
-Press F2 "MIX".
-In the PROGRAM colomn, select the programs you want to use for each row. i.e drums in PART 1, bass in PART 2, etc.
-Go to MAIN menu.
-leave your drums as they are. (There's a reason for this that I won't get into right now)
-Go to your bass track and where it says "Out1:" Select INT-A.
Navigate to Ch: Change this to the PART number your bass is loaded on. i.e, if your bass is loaded on part 2, then change Ch. to 2.

Do this for each additional program.

Now you can load and use as many programs as you need.
