New 4k user, drum pads re-triggering workaround

Hey guys how you doin, I cant believe I couldn't find this 4k users group, about a month ago I posted on the yahoo 4k forum but as yet have had no reply.
Im in australia and recently picked up this crazy crazy beast of a machine.
and I love it, coming from a shitty arse roland groove sampler and a mostly synth setup i've gone sampling crazy. theres only one thing bugging me about the mpc.

When I play the pads softly or at a wierd angle it seems to re-trigger the sample, like a drummer playing a flam on the the snare (ch-chhhh)
its a good feature but I keep hitting by accident, is there any settings for the sensitivity of this feature and does it have something to do with either "note repeat" or aftertouch?????

Theres absolutly nothing in the manual about this feature, but maybe I cant find it cos its called something wierd.
Also sometimes when chopping up a sample it wont let me make the start point below or above a certain value, I think this was they way I was working so now I use regions to cut stuff up so its all cool..

Hope you guys can help, and I look forward to frequenting this board as the MPC is my new tool of choice.

it's not a setting, it's just what happens on the 4k. keep working with the machine because with experience, you'll be able to trigger the sound you want easily.

gottah break those pads in... it'll take a lil while but it will happen

So theres no way to alter that setting? thats cool I can live with it but if im recording with no quantization how do I erase that second hit? or do I just have to get tighter at hitting those pads, I agree its awesome it certain situations ie. hi hat fills or snare rolls. but im just not used to it yet.

im using a dps24, what would be the best way to track the mpc4k to the DPS, I cant figure out if I should go Adat or the 8-outs board........

(not a 4k owner YET...BUT)

personally i would say ADAT is best, coming from someone who spent DAYS wiring up 32 and 24 way looms for analouge desks... ADAT is MUCH easier, and cleaner looking, and SIMPLE!

unless you have outboard comps and EQ that you wish to run the samples/loops thru FIRST then go Analogue->comp->DPS or you could invest in a patch bay and hook that up.

just something i CAN advise on

i like this board a lot but note being a user there is little i can comment on...

in regards to the pads....my pads seemed to be pretty bad with the retriggering. A slight workaround is to set your sample as "one shot". This can help. Of course it will then play the whole sample though.

Over the last couple of months they got broken in though...they work much nicer now, but I wish they were more sensitive. I'll be tapping out a drum beat hard and it's recording velocities of like 50 -70. If I bang that ish any harder I'm going to break something. I just go back and scale the velocity of the track afterwards so at least I still have variation. The full level button is nice for auditioning sounds, but you can't have all your drum hits at 127 velocity.

its how u hit if u try to hit and leave u finger rested it will re trigger u have to hit once and remove if u doing something that require u to hold the pad use full level so u can hit soft and hold so your finger doesnt bounce....

Hmm have you gone into the step edit mode to erase unwanted hits out of your sequence. And push the pad assign button, go to the Sensitivity page and try customizing your setting there.

... check your pad sensitivity setting! pad assign, then f2 sens! its advisable to set it quite low. if in case you have it at 200% its next to unimpossible to play low velocity at all! i always leave them at 100% and would like to set them down to maybe 50% or lower in order to play sounds also at a low velocity! but thats another story and not implemented ... yet! would be great if they implement that in a future os as well!

for the retriggering it may also help if you adjust your prog modulation! try to mess with different settings of velocity there!

sup dont know if i missed any of u guys sayin this, but i found it helped to set poly to 1 to stop phasing if it happens with drum samples on oneshot mode,
