Windows 7 64bit + ak.sys succes !!!

So i stupid as i don't know how to use my mpc properly.

However today i watched the windows 7 launch in the Netherlands with the big boss (Steve Balmer) as a key note speaker.
So i had the chance to ask a few questions to his army.

One of the questions was could you make us a new mpc os. The awnser was unfortunatly no!.
So i asked a second question; "am i able to run 32 bit legacy drivers in xp mode on my 64 bit windows 7 os."

The awnser was "try it as i believe a colleague of my had succes with his old scanner from the year 1800"
So i installed xp mode (it's RC so not the final version yet) and attched usb. Hey it friggin works!!!

Fantastic job! So even microsoft keeps supporting the mpc4000 So AKAI maybe you can learn something from them!!
It is called customer binding. I will never buy any akai or numark product from you until i get a new os for my mpc from you!

Its just XP mode allowing for 32bit driver support. No biggie. But it IS cool that you can use your 4k with win7 tho.

XP mode is just a more enhanced/better version of the XP compatibility tool/mode in vista.

actually windows 7 is really just vista the way it should have been 2-3 years ago.

So how is that, don't you think in the future we will be forced to use movable storage devices like in other older MPCs ?

R u telling us that ak.sys functions on Win 7 64 Bit or ak.sys functions on Win 7 64 bit without crashing regularly? As in it actually finally works properly without all its bullshit errors and crashes.

Please reply ASAP because I have vista x64 and although the program ak.sys does load on x64 - the actual functions of the program are useless because none of the options/concepts react in vista x64... to me anyways..

If this is verified as successful not only but this user, hopefully we can get a couple windows 7 users to verify this then I will indubitably hop on the penis of windows 7.. no homo

It is possible this works, he did include a link to a screen shot with it working.

The reason I say this is that I've been running ak.sys in Vista 64 through a virtual machine. Since XP mode uses the same technology, it should potentially work the same way, so long as it is able to work directly with the usb port. Remember, the software works fine in 64 bit mode, its the 32-bit usb driver that keeps it from working.

I was going to write up a tutorial on how I got it working... but there may be no point if it works in win7 which likely could accomplish this with a lot less effort. On the other hand the virtual machine technique has other benefits and can be used on other OSes, like Mac, Linux, etc.

Yes it works and it's the best way to use aksys on windows 7 is thru windows virtual pc - xp mode. Thank God for this, because I love windows 7 but, I have to use xp the most when it comes to some application like aksys. Also when it comes to connecting and disconnecting the mpc5000 on windows 7 with usb. There is a little problem getting the mpc5k to let go the connection without rebooting the mpc5k.

I'm glad to here that aksys will work on windows 7. Currently I am running windows xp (never used vista) and have had crashes almost every time I tried using aksys - gave up. I have two questions: what kind of computer are you running windows 7 on and (sorry for the nube question) but how do you run windows virtual pc - xp mode?

Just because he got it to work does not mean it is stable. I have never seen aksys used without eventually crashing. I am surprised people still use it.

Well some people are surprised we still use the MPC4000!

Good luck with that Lamp. I got A LOT of disconnect errors while using XP mode. Plus there were nasty artifacts in the stuff that did transfer over. Ak.sys is still a nasty pain in the ass to use via Win7, XP mode or not. I made an XP partition just to use it.

I will be doing some tests via other virtual machines to see if I can get some behavior I can agree with. (parallels)

I get my 4k back next week and I've already got Fusion. I just need to find my old copy of XP or get hold of a cheap copy somewhere.

never got aksys to work with xpmode.. it was so unstable that it would have made loading floppies a much faster and more reliable transfer method

took about 2 weeks to move all samples from the mpc to the computer.. think it was around 50 gig's.. 2 weeks with aksys in xpmode, lol.. constant crashes and having to start over.. now i just load samples into the mpc from a 500gig external hdd

simple, fast, smooth and reliable.

i've lost loads of good sounds because of aksys **** up and moving over empty files.. you see the files on the computer but they are just empty files named like the original files.. but seeinghtem there you may think all went well.. and then go and delete them on the mpc or whatever to free up some space only to later on find out you have nothing left, lol
