Replacing HD inMPC4000

Hi

I'm sorry if this has been posted earlier - I have searced and not found information related to this question:

I have formatted a HD in my desktop computer to FAT32 which should be compatible with the MPC4000. When I install the HD in the MPC4000 I can see it mounted but I cannot copy data to it from AkSys which was possible with my old HD.

I've then tried to format the HD using the MPC 4000 but when pressing the "do it" button, which should start formatting, nothing to happens.

Any help out there?

Is it a 3,5" or a 2,5" harddisk? I've encountered several cases in which a 3,5" would work nicely in the 4k, but the machine is very picky about 2,5" drives. Most times, the 2,5" drives were recognized, but couldn't be formatted - exactly the case you're reporting.

Initially I tried a 2.5" ATA HD along with IDE-to-ATA connector and there I experienced the same problem (couldn't format the drive when inside the MPC).

Then I tried a 3.5" HD IDE and that has the same issue

Thanks for suggesting FAT16; I searched for FAT16 and found:

It seems that FAT16 only supports HD's up to 2GB - which is not good enough Any alternative solutions?

Add later: It seems that FAT32 only supports up to 32GB HD....my HD is 250GB so some other option must exist since some of you guys work with HD's > 200GB


Hoping to hear from you...this is quite annoying, Bought the MPC 2 months ago and haven't had it up running yet

Thanks for you help but I think I will stick yo my 3.5" HD for now. That one I can't get to work with the MPC4000

Anyone can desribe in details how to format the drive on a pc to make it useable on the MPC?

Download the FAT32FORMAT utility from the following site

Put the drive in your PC and partition it first. If you have a partition, delete it and repartion it

Instruction for partition:

Click <Start> button at lower right
Click <Control Panal>
Click <Administrative Tools>
Click <Computer Management>
On the left Click <Disk Management>
Drives will be listed in the top pane and bottom pane
Highlight the drive in either top or bottom pane
While drive is highlighted click on <Action> in the menue bar.
Click on "All Tasks"
If there is a partition, delete it then repartition it. If there is no partition, create a partition for the whole drive

Format the drive with FAT32FORMAT.

Move any files, sounds, programs that are on the PC to the drive that you would like.

Take out and put in MPC.

I've used this utility many times and experienced no problems. I used all default values for formating.
There is also a utility GUIFORMAT, that is even easier to fomat a drive with FAT32...not sure where to find GUIFORMAT. A google search should do.
