MPC4000 as a pure drum machine?

okay, we know it sound great as sampler, my strings and acoustic samples just sound amazing. But specifically as a groove sampler, as a percussion box, how do you rate it? Is it as punchy as the MPC2k or MPC1k - or MPC60?

It kills the 2,and 1k,but the 60 is up on the 4000 when it comes to punch. All of my drum sounds come from my old 60.

Its you that makes the punch.. not the unit! If you know how to make them punchy beats, it does nt matter wich unit you use..

But the 60 sound more crispy and dirty and you cant get that same sound from a 4000, even with the silly bit crusher..

Punch is layering and experimenting with fast and slow attack!

I got a mpc60 and im putting it on ebay is im writing this, mpc4k has a lot more punch, although it sounds a lot cleaner and clear. The punch is there, although it sounds a little more round then the MPC60 wich sounds indeed gritty and agressive.

The mpc4k can sound like that and even more, when using the right eq-techniques and using the right fx.

Layering does also help alot although a lot of proffesionals advice not to layer to much because of the demand on headroom and stuff
