OK.. so I took her apart and went to war trying to get the power fan out of it.. replaced it with this exspensif and in theroy dead silent fan (heck the packaging had a stelth fighter plane printed on it..) and yhea the fan was much lighter and made from plastic, the orginal fan had weight to it and somtype of heavy metal in the middle..

So to thoses that have changed their fan... I now have this extra hiss from the wind blowing through the unit ...and now I´m thinking Akai knew what they where doing and that this hevy metal that was inside it had a reason (like slowing down the fan so it doesnt create this windy b#tch wormhole that I have now created.. pisses me of... taking the fan out of it was like getting slaped in the face with a mpc4000 running a zhitty q link sequence..its hell!!

so did everybody else buy the right fan? was it regular plastic pc based?, or was it heavy duty like the one that Akai made originally, what would be the correct specs conserning the speed ...or any recomedations

and to continue this so amazing topic..

does the 256mb ram speed matter 100 or 133mhz ? what was the 4k design for.. and is 4k picky on the ram brand and/or picky on using the same brand of ram for both slots ....

thx!

I don't know what you paid for your fan but I found an original replacement for next to nothing...

Decent price no doubt!

Now as far as ram goes, pc100 or 133 shouldn't be hard to find, let alone cost you an arm and a leg. I had to go 100, 133 just wouldn't work for me.

thanks for the reply and link!
I will compare my fan spec with the one in the link (altghough this one isnt as bad as my original post makes it out to be, once the sides are on and the 4k is fully closed this hiss is quite minimal, but I was expecting near no sound at all, like when I disconnect the fan, but that might just be wishfull thinking (or has anyone achived zero noise from the fan.. anyway its very minimal and I can easily live with this (its quieter than my laptop!) so I guess Im off now of to look for some 100mhz 256mb chips..thx again!
