Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

I have 2 sequences i have converted to a new sequence with song mode. The new sequence does not allow me to use the track mute on the track mute page? I tried conversion with "track mute enabled" "reference to 1st track" and "off tracks ignored", and it still doesn't work.
Peace

use the "KIS" method......

Keep
It
Simple

copy sequences to sequences......no real need to convert a "new" one out of song mode. Exit out of your song and copy your sequence in main screen. Assign track mutes, etc....the go into song mode and arrange accordingly

that's my two cents

I have the same problem as the OP. I have doubled the length of a 1 bar sequence in song mode and converted it back to what's supposedly a 2 bar sequence, only now track mutes wont work.

Is it really not possible to use track mutes with expanded sequences?

Are there other ways of doubling the length of a sequence where live track mutes WILL work?

Why didn't you just make 1 really long sequence.

What kind of a respond is that? It obviously isn't a suitable solution, since I want to copy instead. Let me know if you have anything relevant to contribute with.

It might be because on one sequence it isn't muted and the other is. It doesn't mute by length only by track. When you combine them I think it defaults by turning mute off.

MPC's have always worked this way. Fortunately I've always just deleted the sounds and never use the mutes much.

It's just a 1 bar sequence that is duplicated with all the same settings and all tracks originally unmuted. Then, in this new 2 bar sequence, when muting a track, it's automatically unmuted each time a new bar begins, no matter if muted while in bar 1 or bar 2.

That's a strange limitation in a performance oriented hardware sampling sequencer, for a function that's primarily used for immediate live improvising.

Anyway, I found there is a copy/paste way of expanding the length of a sequence without the need for song mode.. I assume it must have been what Lampdog had in mind, making me yell at him because I'm an idiot that completely misunderstood what he was saying. Guess I have to apologize for that..

Theres more than one way to do it. What kind of sound are you trying to mute? Can you just delete the track on that sequence? Thats the way I've always did it.

Yes deleting is another possibility. However, I've found a way that works for live experimenting, like I was after. :P

Looking forward to actually start using this machine. Have had it for a while, but haven't had much time to really dig in, until now.

What dusty degailed is exactly why I said what I said. Converting doesn't keep such detailed individual seq info. Instead it bases the whole conversion one the very first seq track assignments, prior indy seq mutes are tossed. Like dusty suggested is the same thing I've been doing forever, just delete stuff so that it doesn't play. Not the workaround you may have wanted but it is what it is.
