Live looping

Need some help with what I want to do please! Basically I want to set up a loop (say 4 bars) and I want to play a beat live on the 4000. Then without stopping the 4000, I want to play a bass line on it too - and so on. I then want to be able mute tracks to cut the beat out and play a fill (which I don't need recorded) - can anyone recommend a good way to do this please?
Main trouble I'm having is that I have to have the MPC in record mode, which also records what I mute - meaning each time the loop repeats, the muting repeats too....
Any help would be great please

But no you can`t record the bass and sequence at the same time. It isn`t Ableton live. Just record the bassline first and then play live.

Sorry to waste your time - was at the day job and it was playing on my mind how to do it. Didn't even have to look it up in the manual - went home, turned the MPC on, and tried what logic was telling me to try (which I could have sworn I'd tried before, hence posting on here) and lo and behold, it worked. Gotta love these logical MPCs.
