Mpc to MP-7

I'm having a little trouble getting my MPC to talk to my MP-7 nicely. I'm trying to add some drums and keys out of my MP-7 to a track I chopped in the MPC. I believe I have all to connections correct because I'm getting sound from the MP-7, but only on 1 channel. No matter what MIDI output channel# I select in the MPC the output only comes out of whatever channel I have selected at that moment in the MP-7. I know the MP-7 is JUST like a Proteus2000 but I've never seen anything like this.

you have to set the mp-7 to respond multitimbrally on incoming midi channels.
i know cause my bro' got the xl-7 (same hardware, diff sounds) and he had to set it in the global settings.
the emu command station series are really deep machines with tons of audio and midi routing capabilities. dig the manual for specs-

Will do! I was going through the manual this morning and ran across a part about the MIDI setting being set to 'Multi'. I swear I tried to use all 3 settings. (Omni, Poly, and Multi) But I will give it a go!

i use to have an mp-7 as midi slave to an mpc 1000 worked perfectly toegether and really utilized many midi channels as your speaking of so i know you can do it, it was 2005 though i can't remember the exact setting by memory

Tried again today.... NO DICE!!! Srsly pulling all the hair outta my bald fade here people! I set the damn thing to 'MULTI' so it would operate and even tried restarting it! Dammitman, I know somebody been in my sh*tuation before...



Edit- HOLD THE PHONE!!!! I gotz it... I had to turn the "re-channelize input" to OFF!!!

I see you found your problem but I would suggest that you sample the MP7 into the 4k.
You can do a lot to improve it's sound by working that way.
I have owned both the MoPhatt and the XL7 and to me they sounded better sampled than direct from the unit.

It's weird that you say that fam... I do take the time to sample some of the nicer drums & hit sounds from time to time, but sampling synth sounds in to the MPC??? I think it kinda redundant but I DO have a very unorthadox method of recording. But I kinda set the MPC and MP-7 both to record the quick edit info to the tracks in the MP-7 instead of the MPC. I don't know if heard what those knobs do, but the -ish is wicked!!!

If EMU would have used more aspects of their sampler line in the Command Stations they would be capable of a better sound.
You can sample the drums into the 4k, you can sample the synth sounds into the 4k you can even sample your realtime tweaking of the Command into the 4k and in every scenario you can get a better sound than what the straight Command would offer.
Sounds really good when sampled through the ASR10.
Nothing redundant about improving that EMU sound, it will make it a much more useful unit to have around.
If I was going to use the a Command straight I would probably send it through a MoFx, DP-2 or some other external effect that allows for realtime MIDI control.

sampling synths into the 4k sounds great.Big chewy texture.
