Sync problem with mpc and computer

What’s up peeps!

First I want to say thanks to every one on this board for all their posts. You have all helped me out loads - I just wish I knew more to contribute myself!

I got some new gear recently and this resolved a lot of latency issues that I had and I now want my MPC to take a more active role in my studio. I know I haven’t been using all of the features of the MPC and I wanna change this- Badly!

I use logic audio for recording vocals, guitar, plugins and sequencing. My MPC is for drums and samples mainly. I have now synced it up as a slave to logic, which works fine, but I can’t seem to get logic to send a record message to arm the MPC, so I can program my beats on the MPC and have logic play it back in sync later. All I can do is get the MPC to play with logic- nothing else. I wanna create a loop in logic, record 4-8 bars in the MPC, edit in the MPC until its tight, then repeat until I have a tasty beat set-up. For this to happen I need to get logic to arm the MPC, right?

Would it be better if the MPC was the master?? Most people have said that I should slave it, but it doesn’t seem to be working the way I think it should. I’m sure I’m just being a dildo.

i use cubase sx and it will not arm the mpc tracks for recording(nothing else i tried will either) but try this do ur beat then drop it into logic from akaisys as a wave file....

One more question. Do you just record the basics in the MPC, then add all effects, filters and other automation in cubase later, or do you do that on the MPC then import?

See, I'm trying to get the best of both worlds really, and I want the MPC to play a big part in the game, but I don't really know where to begin. What do you recommend?

filters and mods i do on the mpc but effects for now are done in cubase(until akai fixes the levels) but on my drums i do use effects in the mpc(sometimes) but let me get more into it now until i get my adat or 8 out option i record seperate tracks per sequence, meaning if i got 8 tracks in sequence i record them then the next sequence and build the song. but soon as i get my option card im doing 8 tracks per pass in song mode. with out the options its a longer process, but if akai gets those fx levels right before i get the option card i will be droping the work from the mpc into cubase on to one track

yea, I'm also lusting after my 8 outs, but that is out of my reach for now, unfortunetly. I'm so poor...

Ive been asking myself this questions for days. Why really worry about using 8 outs wether be digital or analog. Most drums are dry, You can compress the drums all at once by just going stereo out. It just seems like so much work. Can I ask you all? Why worry about 8 outs. I would like to hear your opinions. Maybe it will change my mind about the whole 8 out thing. Im not big time producer but have made many tracks that sound good and have add just compression & normalization and thast all.

ok take you aveage mixer and try to push as many sounds through the channel as possible without clipping.......AAAHHHH!!!! Now take those same sounds and runthem through there own channel and see how much head room you have ..... you will notice alot more play and gain in your finnal mix only because you had alot more to give versus worring about clipping.

I just got a computer 1ghz P3 with only 256 memory. I have cubase SX 2.1, Logic 5.5 Platinum (last version for windows) Cakewalk Sonar 3 Producer , Vegas 5 and some other shit. once I get my sound card not to clip when the windows start up sound comes on I'll be ready to go with you and hope fully give as much help as I can to people.

As far as choosing the adat board or the anolog board for the 4k it all depends on what you have or are planing to get. Me, I was going to get the Digi Design 002 mixing or the one that tascam has out...think its called the FW1884 and get an adat board for my 4k (already have the analog) so that I would be able to free up the XLR and TRS inputs for sound mod or what ever. with these type of choices its hard to plan so far ahead but you gotta do it With me being broke is the best way to save money not really sure what direction im going to take because im also think about getting a Tascam DM-24 and adding it to my VS-1880 and calling it a day

We have simliar set-ups. I have Sonar , have had a MOTU 2408 mk3, and just got a digi 002rack. I can tell you this, If you already got Sonar then get the Motu 2408mk3. It gives you more digital i/o's and sounds better too. I actually like the way Sonar works better. I also like the Cue Mix that comes with the Motu Products. You should definitly check it out first. I will probably send back the digi 002 this week. Sweetwater is trying to pull some shit on me saying they cant take it back because it came with software but thats bull. Thats where Protools make stheir money probably. Ive spent probably 7 or 8 grand with them in the past 2 years and they want to pull that. Just venting. But Im not impressed with the protels set-up. Not as much as it is hyped anyway. I hope to upgrade my Sonar 2 and get back on the Motu and get busy recording.

I want the 8 outs to plug into my Yamaha o1-v and keep everything on its own channel. Not only will I get more head room, but I will also be able to freak a beat or a sample a lot more, in a relatively easy way, as my desk makes it quite easy for all that sheet. I can really mangle my kick drum and add a weird delay to my snare, or whatever, and keep it all separate from each other. In my opinion, you can work fine with what you have already, but you got more control and therefore more options with the 8 outs.

Shame it cost so much tho…
