Sampling via the Adat in?

Hey there, recently got myself the adat card for the mpc4000 but I'm not able to sample digitaly. I selected in the input source option "Adat 1/2" but I don't get a signal detected, not sure what I'm doing wrong. Are you even able to sample via the adat in or is it only available through the spdif i/o card? thanks for any help you can provide me with.

What digital source are you sampling from? I use mine from time to time so I know it works.

Do you have a adat 1/2 output source?

Thanks dabmeister for the reply. I'm actually using a technics cd-player which has an optical output. check this link for a pic:

Basically, I connected an optical cable from the cd player optical output into the mpc4000 optical input and when I go to the record option I chose Input source "adat 1/2" "adat3/4" "adat5/6" "adat7/8" and I get no signal whatsoever. I originally thought I had a bad cable so I bought a new one, but I still can't get a signal.

Two questions, first...from the looks on the pic, I notice the toggle switch "on/off" is in the off position. And second...just double checking...does your mpc look anything like this for recording as far as your setup is concerned?



If you have the spdif/wordclock card, try connecting the coax from that to the cd.

^^^ Come to think of it...if you're using os 1.71 you can sample straight from the 4k's cd drive itself. Just change the input source to "internal (analog)".

Thanks dabmeister for the reply. Actually, I did switch the toggle ON, it's just on the pic that it's in the OFF position. And Yes, my screen displayed exactly the same info as yours. it says the same thing **NO DIGITAL SIGNAL**
Unfortunately, I don't have the spdif card. I am aware that you can sample via the internal cd-rom, but sometimes you want to sample via the adat in, but for some reason I'm not able to. Can you take a pic of the display, with a digital signal being fed via the adat in. Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.

Ok, here's the verdit. You can't use spdif optical going into adat in...it will not work.

An optical output connector (toslink) is not the same than an ADAT output. Optical-toslink is just the connection and can be used by different formats (ADAT, SPDIF,...). I bet your CD player's output is SPDIF, so the ADAT input of the mp4k won't take that signal... Different format, different encoding of the digital data, etc,... You better rip your CDs with your computer if you don't want to lose nothing of the digital data or use the SPDIF input if you have it. Anyway you always can sample CDs using the analog inputs, mpc4k got a decent A/D converter so no one will hear the difference I guess...
