two quick questions...

Hi all you 4k freaks!

Is there any way of using the undo feature in play mode?

Is it just me, or is it impossible/very hard to use the 4k as a keyboard for melodies? I can't make the filters and LFO sound good like I usually can on normal synths/samplers?

2.err no, you should be able to get great results,
have u changed the pad assigment to chromatic for a keygroup?,

Try changing the depth of the LFO etc in the program modulation window,just push the window key whlie in the program page(In the lower 3/4s of the screens layout).
Try shaping the response of the filter using the filter envlope,i like the filters although they dont sound very analog ,they hit the spot 4 me,
are u syncing the LFO to the tempo?

Have a good play about with the sources/ destinations and depth in the mod window,the routing options are cool.

Theres loads more stuff ya can do as well,

if you wanna play keyboard on the 4k instead of messing with the assign just create a keygroup program and bam that sound is across the keys, do like i did when i first got my 4k, i took borrowed every synth i could and sample thier instruments...and i all so made my own layered and multisample programs... took me a month ...but now i just scroll through programs instead of samples...i can call up my mimiced roland, yamaha, korg programs and thier so close in sound u would think i had all those boards. my advice is take some time and customize ur machine to your liking.. do it once and the time will pay for it self when u with a client and you dont have fvkck wit all those samples....and i made a copy of my hard drie and im sell those kits in my city and made about a grand from it already just in my town omagine if i opened it up to the rest of the world...

1: ok. that's just too bad - I guess I have to simply mute the track if I do a mistake - it takes too long time to erase the notes and re-record.

2: Well I tried changing the depth of the LFO and all kinds of other stuff. I think it sounds really bad - and much too dark as well... The only thing I can't figure out is the "R1+R2+R3+R4" something on the right of the edit 1 window of the program. Could that be why? When I change the values nothing happens??

i did it like that because there were sounds in the motif, phantom and other boards that i wanted son i went around to friends and made programs from sampling they're boards..... but also .. those r1 l1 r1 l1 are use full try messing withem with bass and wind sounds.. but to let u in r=rate and L=level- but try this to put ur cursor on the r1 and hit window Dont change anything just look at the settings... but i use those for bass and horns it gives the sample a dragging effect with out changing the sound or pitch then go into the lfo and shift it forward now i got a forcefull bass drop with a drag like when a bass players rided down a string --- get it

I found the settings allright - but I couldn't understand your example sorry. What do you mean "go into the lfo and shift it forward "? You mean changing the depth or rate?
I tried changing the LFO 1 destination to amplitude and other stuff in the program modulation window. But I can't make the resonance and cutoff work like I can on other samplers and synths with the usual opening and closing of the filter? What am I doing wrong?

for the undo thing: what about using the erase function! press erase hit the pad you wanna erase do it and its gone (not sure but i think the seq has to be stopped) but quit quick though!

for the lfo, cutoff thing: its really not easy to find out how this modulation window really acts imo! in order to set your lfo to ie modulate your cutoff you control it on several (3) stages! first the cutoff itself which has a value of ie 20! you modulate it with various lfo1 parameter settings such as wave, depth, rate, ... (and until here is modulating NADA) coz you need to activate the whole shit opening prog mod window (pressing window button) with a value range of +/-100! then your lfo modulaties your cutoff! nothin wrong imo to control the modulations on different stages (actually i think its great) but the problem is that nonoe can really tell how much all those parameters modulate! it has already been asked to akai and noone there is able to tell what allt this +/-100 stands for in hz or anything! (btw: there is somethin explained in aksys manual regarding the lfo depth)

experimenting and tryin to get a feel is all i can advice! ... and good luck with your modulations naturally!
