Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

With the iPad soon supporting midi/out in I am waiting for a manufacturer to release a programmable midi control surface like the TouchOSC program + editor combo but for MIDI data.

Then it would be easy to enter the sysex strings that control all the mpcs internal parameters and hey presto we would have iPAD control for the MPC4k or any other external synth that responds to MIDI messages.

This could be very cool kind of like having a configurable aksys on an ipad.

You the man with the sysex info. Good post. Will the midi connector be at the port connector on the iPad?

Not sure yet Haze, this has a demo of that sort of thing thats coming in the new OS

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6Pwa3Sb ... r_embedded

So its definetly going to be possible.
We then just need a midi control editor program that supports Sysex and that would be it.

The reason the 4k stays with me is the Sysex and usb support means its ages well, we can always find new interfaces for the 4k to access the same stuff via different means which is what alot of music tech gear seems to be :)

An ipad or other tablet controlling the 4k interface is kind of what I am waiting for so I can bin the big touchscreen/computer i use at the moment and use something more convenient.

Its now hopefully only a question of waiting a few months for the new ipad OS and for someone to release a midi control editor.

Its going to be great for me as I hate all the mpcs menus so to have all that synth stuff mapped out on an ipad with the mpcs great seq interface...... is gonna be a match made in heaven. Or we could bombard AKAI with requests for aksys for the ipad

I was under the impression that this would require OSCulator to run on a computer linked to the mpc, still very cool though, I have been enjoying touchosc with logic which is great.

I was looking forward to removing on thing from the chain and having just and iPad and an MPC no computer needed I don't think that this is possible with OSCulator/ipad.

Just looking through OSCulator trying to find SYSEX as an option.

Have you used OSCulator to output sysex messages?

I can see MIDI CC, notes etc but no SYSEX and searching the manual there is no mention of SYSEX.

Just checking your sure before I spend hours figuring out osculator.

You are correct, it does require a computer.

Just need a program that allows u to create buttons/faders that output sysex and we are there, aksys on an ipad.
gonna put a post on the osculator site to request sysex support too.

well I remember years ago HP had a tablet that ran XP... not sure if those had enough horsepower though.

Ipads and ipod touchs are becoming more seen as something to use for music. Eventually somebody will make something to connect via midi the way a desktop does.

Damn, does this mean I have to buy a bloody iPad now?

Still, I guess it will be cheaper than a Jazz Mutant Lemur...

(Although right now I'd be hard pushed to afford the bus fare to the Apple store ;)
