mpc2000xl compatibility - one way conversion?

The MPC4000 can read the MPC2000xl format... Does anyone know if work done on the 4000 can later be read by a 2000 if the sample rate/bit depth rules were followed? Program and sequence data is the important bit.

I'm guessing not. It would be handy for me to have tho.

We would be very lucky to see a new os for the 2000xl to get rid of all the remaining bugs and wish list items. I doubt very much that AKAI would go to that length to support their new products on older models.

I was considering an upgrade to an MPC4000 but without backwards and forwards compatibility, this would force the rest of the group to upgrade too as we all use MPC2000XLs/ S2000s.

The new features would be good (ak.sys especially) but it's nothing that prevents me from making tracks.
