Man I will tell you what, this machine since I got it, keeps showing me more and more things it can do everyday. Coming from the 1000 this thing is such a beast. Don't get me wrong, the 1k is great and it has a ton of features( alot which are in the 4k) , but it's just not the same. Anyways, let me get to why I posted this: This thing is great as a Synth. I know people say it doesn't have a synth engine and it's not a synth, but it is. Yes not a synth like one with presets and regular oscillators, but it does have low frequency oscillator. So to the guys who say the 4k has no synth engine, just stop now. The thing that's so impressive is that you can patch virtually patch things. I am willing to bet the 5k does NOT have this option. When I say patch things I am talking about the program modulation matrix. Seriously, that is a really nice feature, and a good amount of digital synths do not have that option. I know my ms2k does, but when shopping around for a synth I know that was one thing a bunch of them did not have. Also the Qlink modulation setup/sequence it a real sick feature, as well. And to the people who say the 5k is better cause it's a "actual synth," well......IMHO, I think you're wrong because that's where you can surpass all the ROM based synths up because we can load our OWN sounds and manipulate them, we're not subject to using only certain sounds. I am not sure what features the 5k has that my ms2k and 4k has that I don't, only thing I could think of was a arp, but my ms2k transmits the arp data through midi so I use it to control the 4k so there's your arp! And just thought I would write this so maybe I can inspire the cats who are new to the mpc4k or haven't really used the synth to go ahead and jump head first into this thing, it's so rewarding once you do. In all honesty though, I just cannot get over how amazing this machine is, it's just so funny I had to buy a machine made in 2001 to do things that a newer(wink wink, no homo)should do. The only complaint I have is you can't convert song to audio like it jjos, that made transferring to a daw a breeze since I like to save my files and transport instead of recording directly into my daw from my mpc to my soundcard. I am actually still having trouble with that, but that's for another topic. Lastly, thanks for the great forum, if it wasn't for this huge base of information and knowledge I would've went with 5 k or 2.5 k.....I know, I know.......Thanks!
