Hi everybody.
No reason to worry. The strange behaviour of my MPC with OS 1.51t, about which I posted earlier on this forum is due to a memory defect in my MPC. (yeah I know Ikke, you told me so
)
Ok. here goes. I'll try to keep it as short and simple as possible:
In earlier OS's (pre 1.51t) samples were loaded starting with the lower memory addresses (loading from bottom to top).
Due to changes in the current OS this was modified to improve support for auditioning files from the HD. In v1.51t the lower memory area is reserved for file streaming and the RAM samples begin loading in high memory first.
Normally this is perfectly OK. But apparently in my case the higher memory addresses are stored in a defected memory Chip.
Because I never used all of my 512MB Ram before I never experienced this problem with 1.51 and earlier. I simply never reached that top. Now that the OS starts loading samples into memory from top to bottom the defect surfaced immediately with only a few samples loaded.
With this post I would also like to thank everybody on this forum for his or her input trying to solve that damned puzzle. In the end it is solved thanks to David Whittle and Sean Weitzmann from AkaiPro USA who did a great job helping me out.
Further I would like to say to the few people, who hesitated to install 1.51t because of my earlier post on this forum, that the problem was not caused by the new OS, it only surfaced a problem that was already present in my hardware configuration. So don't let THIS be a reason not to check it out.
Because of the memory defect I did not have the chance to check v1.51t out properly but when I look at all the positive critics on the various forums etc. you can find on the internet, I believe that it is a great step forward. I hope I will be enjoying this new OS too very soon.
