MPC 4000, having problems with left analog in

Hi I've been using the mpc for a while now but recently found that my left analog input (I plug in my vinyl player) seems to be faulty. When i turn the rec in control (panning not gain) to the left the input gain on the left side does not increase (though it does make sound just no bass frequencies), it only makes white noise come out the right stereo field. When I turn the rec in control to the right the left input becomes silent and the right input increases until it overloads as normal.. So basically to have even left and right channels for inputting vinyl samples i need to be panning almost full left. Is this a common problem, or do I need to fix my left analog in receiver? if so how would I go about this?

Have you tried swapping the rca jacks to see if its your deck?

yep, i've tried with two different decks and swapped both rca's round, the problem is definately my left in

are you absolutly sure ur needle is connected properly ? .... i had a similar prob. the right chanle wasnt commin in i thought it was the patch bay connection so i tore apart that then i thought the input was goin ...... whatt it happend to be was one of the needles wires wasnt making connection !

Are you sure the input gain left/right is lined up in the middle w/ the actual gain...? In case you're unaware, there are 2 controls there, one on top of the gain knob itself..Just an idea?

I did say i tried with two decks.. i have old record players not actualy decks so the wires are different on each player. I also have a preamp i go through instead of my mpc to chill to vinyls, which plays fine and equal, the problem is definately my left audio in.. I do know that there are two controls on the rec in knob, ive also tried putting the pan dead centre and putting the left line from the player in the left on its own and then the right and there is a huge difference as i said, right plays fine, but left plays half volume really gritty and with white noise coming out the right stereo field of my speakers.. i wish it were a silly mistake what should I do from here, could I repair it myself? Im far from an electricity wizard so any advice would be appreciated! thanks for all the help aswel

I have the exact same problem with my mpc 2500. It's actually the input gain that's the issue. If you set the record in level to the minimum, the input signal is the same on both sides (but both sides are too low at that level to record well). But when you turn the gain on the record level knob, only the right side increases and the left stays at the low level. Either a part comes loose or one of the internal amps must have blown. I can't bring myself to send it to Akai UK to pay their repair prices when it's probably a £3 part. Any ideas?
