First four pads not working. P13,P9,P5,P1

Hello all, I sincerely hope Im not reposting a previous topic..lol. I did a thorough search of my problem and couldnt find a answer. So my problem is as follows. Mint condition MPC4000. I've only used it 4 times since purchased used. Only thing thats been swapped out in the HD and the CDRW. Since last month, every now and then, when I turn in out and load up some samples... The first four pads seem to go out. P13 ,P9, P5, P1. Like they dont play. They're not recognizable on the track mute screen or pad assign. Could they just be going out? Or have I somehow disabled them in a menu? Please help..and thanks again.

if they're not showing up in the track mute screen the sensors are probably going out, test it out again and make sure full level is on see if it changes, although I don't believe it will.

If the non-working pads are all in a row it's probably your pad sensors.

Probably right, but could this fault be due to an oxidising or bad connection where the ribbon cable from the sensor sheet goes into its socket?

A whole row could conceivably go out if the connector isn't making good contact with the ground/return side of the circuit, as the pad rows share a common ground per row with a single contact per pad to complete the circuit.



Apologies for hijacking this photo from another thread, but it clearly shows that each row requires 5 contacts (1 ground/return and 4 individual contacts, one for each pad) so if the ground return contact is failing then a whole row could fail.

If so, maybe pulling it out and re-connecting it could fix the problem.

Of course, it could be that the ground contact has been broken, probably where the ribbon part bends, which would require a new pad sensor sheet or some delicate soldering to bodge it up.
