MPC's HD into PC to copy files

Is it possible to get out the hd of the mpc and put it in the pc, to copy files??

Has anyone tried it??

that should work fine....it's FAT 32 format, universal. If you have to transfer over 1gig of files, then I would highly recommend doing that, cuz USB with ak.sys is slow!!!!!!

I need to put the hd in the pc because the usb connection with the mpc always gets lost....

Switching IDE HD's should work perfectly, though its rather inconvenient..

Im going to go on head and snatch the hd outta my pc save everything and then reorganize my whole MPC HD, because its pretty shitty atm due to not having access to audition

Will take wwaaaaayyy less time to open it up plug it up then put it back and close, than trying to go over usb

On this topic, do I have to get external HD to run the Digi002 setup? I have a PC with 1 gig RAM and plenty of memory, but I don't think that it runs at the correct speed.

I don't want to screw up my PC, and I thought that I might need a special HD to save from my digi002 setup.

ur digi002 runs off ur pc, so your pc would need a hd

I don't know how fast your HD is in your PC but you should be able to record to it. However as a general rule your sysem will run much better if you use an external HD. All your software will run off the internal, all data on the external. Any 7200 rpm Fire Wire should work.


I just transfered 1gb to the MPC4K through USB. I fell asleep, woke up and it was still transfering. I didn't get a disconnect but the process took HOURS!

I do it like this all the time...I also make Norton Ghost copies of my MPC HD and backup them to DVD-R...I thought everybody did this? Guess I'm a nerd then haha!

Yhea, I'll probably get an external HD, while protools will run on my pc. The 002 came with nice plug ins, and those are really versatile.

The board itself is great with 8 outs and ins. The system is outstanding, but the external HD issue I overlooked. Beats my old vs840.

That DVD setup sounds good, do you use the optical/coaxial cable for that? How long does that take?

Initially I copied about 13 gigs of sounds to the MPC. It took a few days. If I tried to transfer more than 800MB or so I would get connection errors which is a HUGE annoyance. You can't leave it on over night and let it transfer because of it. And when you get an transfer error, you have to go back and find out what files it didn't transfer. Off of that, has anyone tried installing a removable hard drive to their MPC. That would be nice...like a server case. That would make it oh so easy to remove the drive.

I use a mac and with my machine it takes 2 minutes screwdriver time
to exchange the HD and build it in the mac (because it opens with a lever)

Then the transfer rate is 60MB/sec so 1 gig takes less than a minute!!
External HD is a very good option too but didn't bother to go firewire yet

With drives being as cheap as they are now, throw one in an external case and be done with it.
It will give you a much faster way to get stuff to your Mac/PC, plus give you more options for backing up and protecting your files.
Last thing you want to do is lose something because the computer decided to corrupt some files on the drive.
Plus look how much more time you'll have not waiting for those transfers.
