internal IDE to SATA adapter

Long story short, I've seen the SSD post. Yet I want to use one of my extra 3-terabyte (3TB) drives I bought this weekend as my new drive for my MPC4K. Does anyone know of an internal IDE to SATA adapter that is truly compatible with the OS and hardware of the 4K? It would be nice to be able to use one of my extra Blu-ray burners in the 4k, too! Thanks in advance.

Since there's no reply, I've bought a few IDE to SATA converters. I also found out that the format of the MPC4000 is FAT32. So I'll just format my SATA drive via DOS. I'll post my progress later on. Stay tuned.

No!!!!!!
The MPC4000 has its own drive formatting routine: install your blank drive in the MPC4000 and then format it there, natively. You just have to select the right menu option, it's all there in the Reference Guide.

It is nominally "FAT32" but Akai have tweaked it some how (undocumented of course).

I now have a 1 terabyte drive installed in my MPC4000. I did format it with FAT32. I transferred the files that were on the 80GB Seagate to the 1TB Seagate with no problem. It loads and has no system crashing. I also updated the ram the 512MB. Too bad I couldn't replace the CD-ROM with a BD-RE burner. The Blu-ray has no audio out (analog or digital). So I'm not sure if it would've worked properly. Peace out.

Some people just won't be told

You cannot address 1 TB in a FAT32 file system (it does not have enough numbers!).
The maximum size of drive that the MPC4000 OS can address is 128 GB.

You need to format the drive *in* the MPC 4000 as follows:

[LOAD] mode > [F2] Utility > Use the jog wheel to select "Do: FULL FORMAT".


*Then* transfer your files to the newly formatted drive, either using Ak.Sys or loading them off CD-R.

Mostly likely, with the drive formatted as it currently is, all will appear fine until the MPC4000 OS tries to access folders in the File Allocation Table that are outside the 128 GB range, then all hell will break lose, possibly corrupting the entire drive and making it unreadable.
