Can't load sounds from a disk into internal memory of my MPC

Hi everyone.....I am having trouble loading sounds from a disk into my MPC4000's internal memory......it looks like sounds are being loaded but I can't get them playing!! Any ideas??

Thanks for the information....
I studied the LOAD and PAD ASSIGN sections but still no luck.
When I load from a CD into internal memory and go down to the part section and scroll to the program list "Deadly Keys" isn't on the list.....it doesn't make it to the program list.
The info from the disk does load though because when I go to the top section.... Disk:.....the CD info (samples, folders,etc.) is there.
I am lost as to what it is......maybe the machine is broken !?
Any thoughts about this?

Did you create a Prog and multi first?

No I didn't......
Your question has made me think I don't understand the basic architecture of the 4K.
Rightg now, I don't see(understand) why I would need to create a multi or a program to play these sounds.......I just thought you loaded the info from disk and it automatically flows to a place where I could access it.

1.Hit Program button
2. Create a program Hitting window key with cursor over "Program 1." them go to KG Mix to assign sounds to pads.

Or you can hit the Pad Assign key, then move cursor to the Sample field, and use jog wheel tp assign sounds.

Well I haven't read the manual so there may be another way to get sounds on to pads? But the way I do it is create a programme, then go to the load screen and audition some sounds. I find one I like and press do it - but at that point I hit the pad where I want it to go and press the button ADD To PGM which is this programme I just created a minute before I went to the load sample page. I then hit the main button, then the multi and select the programme I just created which should also now have that sample I loaded assigned to the pad I hit before I selected add to pgrm

Then I go back to the main screen and on the sequencer track selection I turn the dial until i see the name of the programme I just created. If all goes well you should find your sample exactly on the pad you hit before you selected add to pgm...

If you simply hit load sample it will load the sample in to memory but the sample hasnt been assigned to any programme.

remember you dont have to create a new multi each time or anything like that. Youc an load many samples in to the same programme the way I described above and as long as you select the pad before hit the add to pgm button that sample will be instantly available to play in the main main page.

it does sound to me like you dont quite understand what to do. Stick with it, perhaps really carefully read the manual.

perhaps there is a tutorial you can download from this site which takes you through the basic steps. if there is you would probably have to pay for it but it may be worth it for you. I do understand that manuals sometimes just don't make sense if you have little experience with music gear. I have quite a bit of experience with music gear so I havent really needed the manual yet. Although there is much I don't know about the 4k, but that will come over time.

It's no excuse but I've played saxophone for many years and I'm learning how to think in a different way......it'll happen....
I worked with a Roland R-8 for a long time but the 4000 is a different animal and I'm excited to have one.....
My goal is to write cool rhythm tracks that I can play woodwinds over......
Back to the studio to try your tips labcoats....
