4k broken :( lags when playing a sequence, can't do anything

so i had the 4k for a couple of months, then out of nowhere it started lagging when playing a sequence. i was triggering quite a few samples at a time, and it just started lagging. it even started doing it when only a couple of samples were loaded.

i haven't used it in around a year, and it seemed like it was working fine with no samples loaded, but i feel like it will stop working again. i tried taking out all the extra memory, no luck. took out the hd, no luck. i did the cpu/mem usage monitor (can't remember what it is), but i DO remember that it was going through the roof no matter the size of the sample being triggered at the time.

( what do i do? i called forat, and he said he'd never heard of this issue before. i feel like it's probably the motherboard, but you can't find extra 4k mobos available anywhere...

Sounds like your 4k is jammed packed with sequences and samples. Did you try to reinitialize it? You might want to reformat as well. Be sure to make a back-up before doing this.

no need to format anything....just unplug your harddrive internally, load some samples from usb....
might be an idea to remove the memory sticks and load a couple of small samples...i think the mpc4k has like 2mb internally without the memory sticks...that way you can discount if memory sticks have become corrupt

if still issue then its your motherboard (like brucie indicated).....

have you tried putting on new memory stick?

A lot of problems come from faulty memory sticks. I fixed a couple of problems with that.

I do worry when I read stuff like this because yeah mobos are as common as actual real aliens.

I take it you have disconnected all the midi cables just in case something is sending a huge amount of data. Crap suggestion I know, but had to ask. I cannot see how the hard drive could possibly affect the sequences though.

I do very much hope theres a fix for you. Im in the UK and something like this would be game over.

Actually can you explain a bit better when you say "lagging" i take it stuff starts to play out of time? So lagging against what? are you playing the internal metronome at the same time for context. Or do you mean the sequencer is slowing down, speeding up. lag could mean quite a few things

Can you sync the 4k to a daw, send it midi clock and see what happens?

Where are you?. Let us know what has happened. Did you get a fix, have you given up. Did you try what I suggested. Leaving threads up in the air (of which there are far to many) with no end to the story is frustrating for many people who search when they have 4k problems and find themselves reading them to the end only to find the thread starter has done a runner. Good or bad result, its good to know what happened.

The midi related suggestion is a good one - When I use my Juno 106 (ancient) as a midi keyboard it is constantly sending unwanted midi signals into the midi channels - I found that if you can disable different types of midi signal in the midi options...and this dealt to that problem - But yeah was slowing down the machine massively!

Yeah, seems the thread starter has vanished. Would have been good to see if it were solved
