I have read many books and magazines for self study on learning to use electronic instruments and music productions from Berklee Pro Tools to How to Dj right and Music Engineering by Bruce, Home Recording and others but I have to say the simplest and easiest guide to understand and use all of the above techniques and tools is the Desktop Studio

Desktop Studio by Emilie Mensache is an excellent source to the basics of desktop production. I highly recommend it to newbies and veterans.
