No sound coming from pads

Hey guys im new to this mpc forum, this is my first mpc i got, the mpc4000. I got it used. I've been messing around with it and reading the manual to it for about 2 days now. I'm trying to hear sound out of my headphones through the pads but all i can hear is the metronome and auditioned sounds through the load screen. I did the what the manual said to do, load a program with the samples into a folder. Go to main and change the part to the program you want to use. Go to program then change the program's status from off to usage in program 1. I did all of this and still no sound coming from the output, no midi detection, nothing. I can hear stuff if I can go into the sequence editor, but i have to press paste and find something from the phase library, then i can hear a kick if i inserted that. And id have to assign the locations myself, I can't do any reatime input. Im getting no sounds from the pads. Also interestingly, I can't change the master volume, sound comes same wether loud or low. btw i am using a stereo jack for my headphones. Is there anything Im doing wrong??

You have no sound assigned to the program.

Press PROGRAM

Select the program

Now you will see a list of notes/PADs

Press the pad you want to assign the sample to

See the blank box next to it>highlight it and turn the data knob

You should see the names of the samples in the box now.

Rinse & repeat


This manual is THICK! Spend the $12 and go to Office Depot and get it printed and bound!!! SO WORTH IT!!

I already did that. Go to program, then pad assign, then you the notes, below that sample, then you scroll that and then youll see like names of the sounds. I did that. I just went into test mode by going into global and global+shift. I pressed on the pads and none of em responded, the q-links are working fine, but nothing from the pads. I bought this off of ebay. Is it possible theres a loose cable inside?

@InZane There is a small chance that the ribbon for the pad sensor my be loose. But you can check the sensitivity and test all the buttons/pads/knobs from a screen in the MPC. I can tell you right now because I am not in front of the machine right now. Don't break out the screwdriver just yet....

EDIT: I just re-read your post!!! Get that screwdriver!!!

Hey Mike Boogie, I just opened up the MPC and checked the sensors, I replugged the ribbon in, no change. Still not getting a response from the pads. This is very strange. any other possibilities?

I think I may need to get a new pad sensor smh.
