Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

Fellas, I just purchased a used 4000 today and quickly noticed the cd drive doesn't seem to read any discs. It has power to it (green light comes on when opening) but when I go to load it says that the drive is empty. I'm brand new to the 4k so i could be missing something easy. Does the disc have to be formatted a certain way to work? How can I tell if its bad? If it is, is the drive replaceable with any cd ROM drive? Also is there any other way to load sounds other than by disc?

Drives are easy to replace, I stuck a DVD burner into mine.... But 1st check if that's really needed.
Stick a CDR/CDRW into it, and try to burn your project files, then try to read them.
Who knows what state/kind of discs you put into it.

Did you even select the drive from the load screen, it doesn't auto select it.
