The mBox Mini doesn't have MIDI, you still need a way to get the MIDI to/from your computer.

P, several people let you know what's up with midi in another thread, yet u ask again and again.

Why don't you know the specs of your hardware and what it will do for you? If you don't know or figure that part out then your lights remain on but no one's home. You have got to make a serious attempt to help yourself.

Oh ok thanks for the help... From what I had researched you could in fact use the mbox if set up correctly but i could've clearly missed a small thing in the setting. Lamp everything I've asked prior Yo to this has nothing to do with this. Someone on my last post actually proved this to be true and you even commented on it. I didn't know there were "RULES" to this forum! Some of you guys are way too aggressive on here. Maybe its a way to ridicule someone for not.knowing every minute thing. If pro tools is used simply to record, the question is not necessarily directly related to MIDI. I have done and still do a lot of research on my own. I thought this forum would be great but I'm.hesitant to.even ask because people can't simply "answer a question" on this forum without portraying to be a know it all, for the most part. Some guys react as of it is there job to antagonise people with less knowledge than them but in the end to gain what? There are no rules saying don't ask a questions or did I miss that? At the end.of.the day there.are still some opinions on here and who.is to say that anyone on here has credentials to fit the game they talk? For the record, the person who actually directed me to record in this form is a professional and is certified through pro tools, so how.is that for educating myself? All in all I still never get upset because its really no.point to.but i will.voice my opinion. Again thanks.for the help

I'm not trying to get at you, not trying to make you feel bad or clown you.

You still need to know the specs of your gear in order to get the most out of it.

Now.

Midi doesn't travel on audio cables.
If you have no midi cables running then you get no midi.

Looks like no midi. Check specs before you purchase or acquire gear.
Understand those specs a bit so that you don't end up spending/re-spending more money in the future, get what you need and envision the first time around.

I think Lamp and others are just annoyed cos you've been given good advice from a few people, but haven't taken it onboard.. You are also asking questions that simple google searches will solve for you, and that have probably been asked on the forums here and answered many times before.

Alot of people on here myself included, started out when there was no such thing as going onto a forum for help, we had to experiment/read manuals/books/magazines until we had the info needed to make the music we wanted.. If you always look to others for answers you won't ever be able to make music that's YOUR OWN.. It will be to the template of what others have advised.. who wants that.
Anyway, I'm just a PM away if you run into trouble and are stumped after googling.. But don't be afraid of reading up, it might feel a pain in the ass, but it's alot more rewarding like that.

They only said get a MIDI keyboard and research things for myself which i have done for the record. But again I keep saying, NOBODY HAS TO RESPOND TO ANY OF MY POSTS, IT'S AN OPTION. Simple as that! Again thanks for the input

I got the mbox mini when i bought my pro tools software, strictly to record vocals! So i didn't spec it out to produce instrumentals of any kind when it was purchased at any point. I'm good friends with domeone who is certified in pro tools from avid. How many people on this forum can say that? I'll take his word over anyone in this forum anyday. But everyone can be wrong and not completely understand something. I JUST got into production and I was told that i could use the interface I have but i believe the guy thought I had the regular mbox and not the mini. At the end of the day I wanted to know how to transfer MIDI data with the internal sounds of my keyboard but no one seems to be able to answer that question. I'll continue to do what some of u believe I don't do and that's research of my own.

Not knowing the basics or your gear is a fail on your part. That impairs your production big time. You mean to tell me you never noticed it didn't have midi?!?

So why didn't "Domeone" (sounds like a ghey graf name) tell you that there was no midi in your interface? Don't answer that, I'm just thinking out loud.

At the end of the day I wanted to know how to transfer MIDI data with the internal sounds of my keyboard but no one seems to be able to answer that question.

You have no midi in/on your interface. We've told you that already.

pcity_substance,

don't know if I'm understanding you right but from your 1st post you have a Midi keyboard MIDIed to your MPC4000 and you wanna hear the music you "played" on the keys tracked out in pro tools? My question to you is are you trying to use Pro Tools to trigger the song and have each "played" sound tracked out on a track separately or are you trying to just record the beat onto a pro tools track as a "two track (left and right signal, stereo track"?

My current setup is a Triton Studio MIDIed to my MPC 4000.....

for me to hear anything played out of my Triton sequenced by my mpc....I need to have a loop.

I need to have 2 MIDI cables. my set up is as follows:

Keyboard "MIDI out" with 1st MIDI cable connected to MPC "MIDI IN"

Keyboard "MIDI IN" with 2nd MIDI cable connected to MPC "MIDI OUT"

When I have that loop I can hear everything I played on the keys perfectly. If I break that loop by unplugging any part of those MIDI cables of the loop the result is I can't hear any sounds of anything out the trition...

Is you MIDI keyboard set up in this loop fashion? If not try this and see what happens....and of course make sure that the setting on the MPC main screen are set correctly.....

mbox mini has no midi capability.

only the 4k seems to be able to record midi performance (midi kybd to 4k), not protools like p wants.

naw, I was just trying to make sure I understood his original question. From what I read, it doesn't sound as if he is trying to track out from Pro Tools triggering the MPC...but I could be wrong....

It reads like this.

midi kybd -> 4k - cool
4k audio -> mbox mini -> pt -cool.

There is no midi connection on the mbox mini to be able to record midi performance into pt like P is wanting to do.

P is wondering why PT see no incoming midi. The interface is audio only, that's why.

Way earlier I went to the website and checked the specs and pics of the interface (and I was asking why P didn't know what his interface was and wasn't capable of). But, i don't need an answer to that, I'm done, it's on P to look into/resolve the no incoming midi issue by obtaining a capable interface.

Buy a Midi Interface to run your MPC with Midi into Pro Tools but then you have to setup the Midi interface in Audio Studio if you have a Mac, Im not sure if you have a PC...But you need to setup the Midi Interface and then set it as a controller in Pro Tools...

Lampdog answered your question straight off. You cannot send midi through audio cables and your box doesn't have midi. SO - you will not be able to send midi from your MPC to PTs with the box you have.

Just go buy a little EMU X2 midi interface and you will have midi,,,and please use your mind for a little more cohesive thinking,
