Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

Hi I searched the forums and didn't see anything pertaining to this topic, making the MPC4K a slave to Reason 6.

I have the MPC 4K set up to receive MTC and time code, and I have my MPC hooked up to my MIDI interface. I used MIDI in I to receive the time code and have it hooked up to the MIDI out of the interface.

I also set up Reason to send and receive MTC.

Anyone ever set these sequencers up before? I would even consider making the MPC the master device if I had to...

Ummmm :hmmm:

I don't think Reason has any type of MIDI OUT features. (Timecode, etc)

MPC Master/Reason Slave will work though.

Reason has no midi out so its only possible to use it as a Rewire option with another software program or as a slave from an external midi device,or a standalone application, you can't use it as a master to slave other Midi sequencers to it.

You'll have to use it as a slave device synced to the MPC like I do

I use my MPC4K to run all my hardware modules with Reason,(because of reasons lack of Midi out)I also use Reason as a multi track recorder to run Audio in sync with the Midi tracks from MPC

First of all hook up one of the midi outs of the MPC (A/B/C or D)to your computer midi interface input with a midi cable

Then go to the preferences menus in Reason and set the Advanced setup midi sync input so that Reason will receive midi clock from your computer midi interface.

then go to MPC (sync window)and set the Midi clock output to whatever midi out socket you connected your computer interface Via the Midi cable on the from the MPC(A/B/C or D)or just set it to all)

then set the MMC send (in the same sync window)and choose the Midi out as above (A/B/C or D)whichever midi port you connected the midi cable to your computer interface,or just set it to send on all ports like above

Then go to reason drop down menus and set it to receive External midi clock(external sync)

hit play on the MPC then Reason should play as well, switch the metronome on on both the MPC and Reason to hear if they are perfect sync

Let me know if this works as I'm not in my studio at the moment so can't look at the devices for the exact settings as I'm trying to recall them from memory.
