Yo pixel, I don't think it sends out the trackmute data. Would a lot easier if it did though, I agree. If you find out a way to get this data out please let me know.
I have worked together with a VJ, thinking of a similar setup some time ago. We came up with the following idea: Your VJ software probably is able to respond to a certain note number and if you can assign it to different parameters in your software or have the flexibility to do some additional midi programming / mapping you can try this:
For drumtracks use the same note number in every program for the basic drum functions like kick, snare, hi-hat and reserve a few for special-fx-like sounds. Route the tracks besides to the part in the multi also to the visuals computer using the OUT2 field in main mode. Used a specific midi channel for the dums.
The VJ could setup his software so it would repond to the incoming note numbers and because the drum notes are standardized he can instantly assign the basic drum functions to trigger video files or certain video FX parameters. If you set this up right, it immediately should give you the feeling that the video is interacting with the music. If you also use the note velocity parameter and map it in a way to some video parameter(s) this could create a dynamical visual fx as well.
For longer notes with more environmental / padlike sounds use a different channel. You can devide your sounds in a few different moods like happy, sad, agressive, whatever, ... and code this into a specific note number outside of the keygroups so it won't sound when played.
E.g. note nr 0 = happy, nr 1 = sad, etc...
In a track, double every attack of a single note or a complete chord in a single mood note nr. The VJ software could detect a different incoming note and use this information to change to a different video folder, containing video files in a different mood or pick another fx, etc. etc.
Tracks that are not needed in the video software simply should not be routed to the VJ port/channel.
Please let me know what you think.
Cheers!
