Looking for different storage options...

Everyone knows how much I HATE Ak.sys. I've tried and tried and tried to find a better method of adding and organizing things that are on my HDD. I am jealous of newer MPCs ability to connect to PC/Mac without going through the drama having Ak.sys get in the way.

So I'm think of replacing my HDD with either a CF reader or a Hot-swap SATA drive bay.

What cha' think gentlemen?

I was thinking maybe a 64GB CF reader slap right in the front of this baby might do the trick. I will only remove it just to put in an adapter so I can plug into my PC for updating/backing-up/organization purposes.

I gotta keep my DVD-RW drive though that **** is priceless

This is EXACTLY why I DON'T want to do it. It may actually work. Why you ask? I'm under the impression that the 1000 and the 4k's OS's are VERY similar, but the 1000 has the ability to be linked via USB. The 4k's HDD is only accessed when prompted by an event. (LOAD/SAVE button, etc)

I may be doing some tweaking over the next few weeks...STAY TUNED!

I think an external USB Hard Drive for your 4k is a better option. Even a USB stick should get the job done. You don't need AkSys to move files between your CPU and the 4K.

I've had good success with:

WIN7 ult64 / vmware / winxp svcpk2 / aksys

You shouldn't need a CF reader, with a USB port. You can hook up a USB hub to the 4k and have a USB thumb drive, External HD, and a typing keyboard for file naming.

4K does not need a CF Reader...IMHO.
