program 1 automatically being created...

so i have created a program called musicbox and it is loaded into into one of the outs ("OUT A: PART Part 1: musicbox"). program, sequences, songs all saved (no associated multi) and every time i power on and load this folder the machine creates "Program 1" and puts it where my program was. i have to swap it out every time. i can manually delete it from the program list but it comes right back once powered off/on.

am i missing something? obviously i have no idea why this is going on. i scoured the manual for a why but turned up nothing.

That's the way mine is. I don't think it has a way of starting up in the last setup that was being used. I don't recall ever reading that in the manual and I read the whole manual.
I know that many newer items do load up with what you were last working on. The Elektron Octotrack does this, and it definitely is a time saver.
Let's see if someone will prove me wrong...that would be a good thing.

Anytime the 4k loads from startup it will load a default multi and a default program that is normally called 'Program 1'. This is normal. What is not is the change you see when you load a project.

Try this, load the project, correct all the Part assignments, then re-save the project in the same place. Power cycle the machine and re-load that project.

How are you saving your projects? I hope you are not throwing everything on the root of the drive?! Here is an easy method of keeping things tidy.
You started a new project from scratch and you are ready to save. Make a NEW folder and save the entire memory to that folder. When you are ready to load just hilight the folder and hit DO IT! This will load everything back into memory the way you saved it.

Now AUTOLOAD is available on the 4k, it's just kinda hidden. You can create a folder called AUTOLOAD and add a set of programs and a multi and it will load up on startup.

Anybody feel free to correct me if I am wrong...

That is a good tip. I will start to use Autoload.
I did not read Fowlers post carefully because I overlooked where he said he actually loads his program but program 1 still comes up. That does not happen with mine.
However I would create a new file or save to the root.

just CLEAR all memory when you load your folder

I'll second mikes comment on that autoload. Whatever is set up to your preference and installed in the autoload folder, gets loaded everytime the 4k boots up.

doesn't do the trick. one multi and one program still there. "Operation: CLEAR MEMORY (DELETE ALL)"

no autoload folder...therefore except for this typical behavior of loading a default program and a default multi NOTHING should be happening. it's not loading any samples or sequences, by the way.

no dice. project loaded, unwanted program deleted from program list, part assignments corrected. on the save page i choose "save entire memory" and "replace" so it should be overwriting everything. furthermore i can look inside the subfolder (nothing on the root - everything gets a subfolder) and see my "musicbox" program and there is no "program 1" anywhere to be found.

it appears to me that for whatever reason, this "program 1" is not being wiped out when i load my folder. is there any way to tell the machine to purge/clear memory when it loads a new folder? or does this have to be done manually with the aforementioned method?

weird, clearing the memory works fine for me

There is a setting somewhere, for "create default items at start-up".
It's probably about 2006 since I read the relevant bit of the manual (Hint: it will likely be in one of the OS Addendum PDFs, not the Reference Manual v1.0)

ANother thing which can cause this is a setting in Ak.Sys 2.5.3, which will turn this back on again even when you think you turned it off.

You can always delete just that program from the program list after you've loaded your folder if it bugs you that much. I use Lamp's method myself, no problems here

for future reference (thanks feline1), you can turn off default item creation on the GLOBAL page. "Default items: OFF"
