Front USB Busted.. What Now???

Whats good folks...

MPC 4000, greatest MPC on earth. I just HATE akaisys and to top it off..


I CAN'T LOAD FREAKIN Pendrives/Flash OR EXT HD'S VIA THE FRONT USB!!!!!!

I bought it used and at first I was on SnowLeopard, so akaisys was wonky but I managed to load my entire library on it, so this problem didn't bug me much. Now I'm thinking of how fast I can swap stuff from MAC->MPC with the flash drive. I've tried every type, even bus powered HDs, and externally powered HDs, nothing works. I asked the folks at mpcstuff.com and they said it may be the headphone/usb pcb, but they dont know for sure.

Anyone had this issue?? Anyone get around it anyway at all? Did the headphone/usb pcb fix work for you?? I searched the forums but the closest I can find is people asking what format should the flashdrive be.

Someone help the kid man... I'm so tempted to go back to my 2500 its not funny..

does the front pcb have a usb port in it? that may be your best bet.

Yeah, he's already hip to the pcb.

I'd try a usb keyboard as a last resort. If that doesn't work, then yes, you probably have some damaged contacts in the port itself or the headphone/usb pcb is history.

From the look of it, $38.00 + shipping and an hour of your time is worth more than dumping your 4k and down grading.

Never tried the usb keyboard homie... I jus got hip to the pcb, and I jus copped a new preamp and got some more equipment on order, so next paycheck I'm scooping that pcb. I love some 4000 man.. at first it took a bit to navigate, but after i setup autoload with my programs n multis, it was over. I dig the sound of it better than the other joints, but the reason i said the 2500 was because the sequencer is the main thing for me.. and getting my sounds back into the mpc was DUMB easy...

Any other takers?

What happens if i replace that pcb and its not working still??? Damn I'd be hella tight lol

My front USB wore out and I simply got it fix last year.

I genuinely dont understand why so many have an issue with Aksys. Its basic software but totally does the job easily for transferring sounds directly from the computer to the MPC

Perhaps folks are expecting a modern GUI with lots of eye candy and big shiny buttons.

One thing thats reall Ace about the 4k is the multiple choice methods of transferring and saving sounds. Even today some new hardware doesnt give you that choice.

Rejoice in your 4k, do not downgrade to toys
Its a splendid machine. (except when it goes bad)

ak.sys is wonderful software
it was free and added much functionality to the whole equation

It wasn't Ak.Sys that was shit,
it was the USB driver that was utter flakey alpha-ware crap
