yeah, there's an Akai PDF somewhere which listed the QWERTY keyboard > MPC4000 key mappings.

They include:

F1 to F6 > softbuttons F1 to F6 (i.e. below the LCD screen)
F12 > orange 'Window' button
Page Up / Page Down > Block Cursor Up/Down
- / + on numeric keypad > Jog Wheel up and down
cursor keys > black cursor buttons on edge of jog wheel
Soace Bar > tap tempo (I think)

This great, got a standard microsoft wireless usb keyboard working, would be amazing if we could trigger the transport controls and pads from this, has anyone taken this to the next level?

For those of you that have got a usb wireless keyboard that worked on the 4000, any chance you could post what exact brand and model it was?

I tried a Logitech TK820 and it simply worked, so requirements are probably quite low.
(a lot of software comes with this keyboard and is of course skipped on the MPC)
I mention it as an example only, imho it‘s an overpriced pos that just happened to lay around for a test.

Got a tiny Riitek Model X1 Keyboard+Touchpad, sells from $10-40 under various brands.

Not velcroed to the 4k yet, will probably apply some foam below to rise it.
Works on the 4k, on Mac G4 under OS9 and on the MacMini in Montery 8)
It‘s a versatile little device (touchpad emulates mouse, left/right mouse button, cursor keys etc) and saves space if you need keys/controls only occasionally.
Key press is with solid click resistance.
