Aksys on XP and OSX

Hi,

Im currently using aksys on my pc with win7 32bit on it but lately I'm getting more and more error messages. The usb error 15 and 16, where the usb connection is lost. This is driving me mad and therefore I'm looking for an alternative.

I know aksys isnt the most stable program, but from what I have read aksys on apple is more stable. I would like to know if people here can confirm this? On an OSX are there the same problems with lost usb connection etc? Or is this a problem only with windows based OS?

The second question is which OSX works properly. Reading threads here I discoverd the OSX 10.6 is causing some problems with sample drag and drop issues. 10.4 should work fine? I'm not an apple user so I don't know anything about it. Help is greatly appreciated!

I think OS X 10.5 is the last revision that will run Aksys. The thing to check is if the OS revision still has support for Power PC applications/Rosetta.

XP or Win 98 run it best on PC's. You could find those old PC's for like $20 on Craigslist.

I heared about xp computers with the exact same problem, the usb error 15 and 16.
So XP etc isnt really an option. Thats the reason for asking if apple OSX with aksys is more stable or not?

I don't know off top but just Google to find out what point revision of OS X Apple dropped Rosetta support on. But I'm 99.% sure it was around the OS X revision I mentioned.

So yeah 10.4 should work I think, the PowerPC/Rosetta code was in every revision of OS X up until they dropped it (at Snow Leopard I think).

So if I understand it correctly, after searching for rosetta, this is support for Intel processors. Wiki says: Apple made Developer Transition Kits available for sale which included a version of Mac OS X v10.4.1 designed to run on x86 processors. So 10.4 or above would be fine. 10.6 snowleopard isnt because of sample drag and drop issues, as stated in other threads.

And do you use aksys on OSX? And have you ever had problems with usb connection loss or the problems above? Or anybody who can confirm that OSX is more stable than windows xp, vista, 7?

Yeah sorry on forums I forget not everybody is so geeky. Be proud you didn't know what Rosetta was.

My Mac had Snow Leopard when I bought it and Mountain Lion now, so Aksys was never an option.

Here's another recent thread with more Aksys info for both PC and Mac and some good info on running aksys in a "virtual machine" application like vmware. It should elaborate on your last couple questions.

Lol I am proud of it I have seen those threads about VMware but that is still on a windows computer and there is the risk of having usb connection loss again so...
My main question is. If apple osx is more stable than windows running aksys. I searched for "osx" and "usb problems" (usb error 15, 16) but it seems the osx doesnt have those problems? Are there mpc/aksys users here that work with OSX and what is there opinion. Thats what I would like to know.

OS X 10.6 is the last OS version with Rosetta.

I have OS X 10.6 and WIN XP (I don't know which SP).
File transfer on the OS X 10.6 gives a lot of problems, it's a pain in the The pad assignment works fine.
WIN XP has much less problems with file transfer but I get USB errors too.

It would be nice if somebody could make a better driver.

Would using the Z4/Z8 driver be a possibility and make a difference?

Maybe someone out there has attempted this.

I justed spend about 45 minutes with the 4K hooked up a PC with WIN 2000 SP4 (5.00.2195), no problem at all. File transfer, browsing directories, creating directories, delete directories and files, moving files from the 4K HDD to the memory of the 4K, drag and drop samples directly on to the pads in Aksys.
I can't do that on the XP or OS X 10.6 without loosing connection.
