Tweaking samples from Edit1

Whenever I tweak a sample in Edit 1 and wanna record it in to an unused track( for example taking a snare and filtering it to sound like a hi-hat) and record it, the original sound (untweaked/unfiltered) sound plays back when I go back to the main page.
What am I doing wrong? Any advise is greatly appriciated.
