If you go to akaipro website and look in documentation for mpc4000 it says it in the instructions for installing ram. Also search site for installing RAM.

I already did that, that's not my question. My question is does anybody know of any brands of memory that have been tested by akai and are known to work well with the 4k.

I personally am using Kingston model KVR100x64c 2/256
I have had mine for over a year and have had no problems.

The memory needs to have 8 chips per side and 168 pins.
