Are people finally starting to catch on to the 4000??? Seems like a lot more 4000 talk around here these days. Better buy em while they're cheap boys!!!!

They got cheap...many are for sale and people are starting to buy them up. I have gotten a lot of PM's because of youtube videos I made about the mpc4000 and the Z4. I tell them all to join the forum. Within the last 2 months or so I have noticed the questions. Not sure if those people have joined.

I also noticed on Ebay a month back someone was selling many Z4's and Z8's claiming they were once owned by Def Leopard. So it makes sense that the questions are coming around.


That is always how it goes. Takes a few years before something gets in the hands of those that can afford it.

Ok, let me stop being cheesy.

A few folks on the Gearslutz forum have bought 4ks recently becasue of the Cirklon. Once they realise the 4k offers a lot - they get interested. Both machines are very different but they both have excellent timing and multi midi in and out. A lot of hardware these days - people who dont want to sequence in a Daw require an excellent sequencer.

slightly worried I'd have a hard time getting a new one if and when my 4k finally goes dead after years of abusive fisting and fingering.

Not even in the same league. Which is why the MPC5000 was the MPC3500, they knew it had a lesser spec. But humans being daft as they are think a higher number = better machine.

Theres a thread somewhere with a video of the MPC4000 top ten features...I've never seen such a video showing anything good about the MPC5000. Well not yet lol

I have both. I'll be back later. There's no such thing as best, if that's what you're looking for.

After owning two mpc 60's, two 2000 xl's, 2500 jjosxl,1000'mv8800 & tried the 5000.
The 4000 to me is by far the best...never going back.

In a nutshell, nobody is going to be able to tell you which one is better suited for you. There are quite few different features in both units. More thump? NO. You will get a different feature set for the sampler section. The 5000 is more of a phrase sampler and the 4000 is a sampler where you can set up multisamples.


I have owned mpc 60 mk 1, mk 2, 1000, 2000, 2500, 3000, 4000, 5000. These were used for years, not just tried out.

I hereby conclude that bacon wins!
