Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000
By hi4k Mon May 06, 2013 9:07 pm
Hi,

I am trying to locate this part:

REC16B25-201C

I am located in the US. I did request a lead time from Allied but unsure if they will respond in any timely fashion. MPC Stuff seems to be out of stock on the complete assembly (including PCB and ribbon cable) but I am capable of desoldering the existing encoder and replacing with a new one.

This part is the rotary encoder for the jog wheel on the MPC4000. I obtained the part number from the service manual.

Anyone know where is a good place to source such a part?

Thanks,

hi4k

http://www.rs-components.com/

let me know i'm looking for the same part i have enough of that backstep sensitivity problem

The problem with the one in the first PDF link is that it has the 'A' option, which is for a push button function. The one we need is the 'B', no push button functionality.

edit: nevermind, that's just a sample designation. Too hasty in responding.

If you can do the soldering, why buy the full assembly?

That is not what's in the 4k.
(If the image of the out of stock part on MPC Stuff's website is the right part - should be)

VST suggests this part is for the Z4/Z8/S5000/S6000.
I'm almost certain the 4k uses an optical encoder, which are in another league compared to the mechanical type, hence the price.

Sorry, I thought I saw 4000 in the listing. Just call VST anyway. They don't list all their products. They may still have what you're looking for.

Odd that they don't have that in the UK store, they don't stock anything by Copal at all.

If they have them in stock, let me know, we'll do a group buy for the 4000 forum.

Sounds good.

I don't think I could live with mine if/when it starts going funky. The Jog gets a serious workout with the 4K.

That's the part alright!

Oooh 1 million rotations reliability, that's what I like to see, not the miserly 50,000 that you get with a mechanical encoder, which are found on almost all newer gear.

I'm up for any group buying - might even take 2 and maybe I can figure out a way to get it working on the Emu e5000. I just need to find a +/- 5v somewhere to power it, the rest is the same as a mechanical.
