Im currently deciding which to go for, and since the prices are so different I need to get it right. I use a lot of sample CDs with multiple folders of drums etc on them on a WAV format. If I went for a 4000 with the CD drive, is it capable of opening these folders and previewing these sounds for me,as on a PC ?, as it is such a hassle listening through whole CDs of samples in audio. In short is the 4000 worth the extra expense generally ?
The 4k is the one which can do the quickest job off of cds compared to any other hardware Drum machine. the new os coming at the end of the month is supposed to contain the Preview sample from hard drive function. I believe this is called Intellisample. I have read that this OS update will be available on the 28th of Feb. If you use sample discs then the 4k is a dream come true. When you load up your samples from folders contained on data cds you get complete and comprehensive programs correctly mapped out and ready to be played. I'm not sure if the 2k can do this(first you'd need a stand alone cd-r to run with it...yuk!) but I wouldn't suggest the purchase regardless because the 4000 is far superior to the older model in so many other ways as well. Read through the topics list and it will give you an idea of the power of the 4k. The extra expense is certainly worthwhile if you enjoy "working" as opposed to "working around" certain limitations you will inevitably run into with the older model.
As far as I am concerned, the expression "Do it once and do it right" immediately comes to mind.
