Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

In the program KG mix page. When I hit a drum pad it highlights the sound of the pad that I just Hit. Yet when I hit the keyboard of that note it does not move. (keyboard does not trigger/send info)

I've tried the selection set to DRUM and INST in the midi field.
I've also converted my program to a Keygroup. And it still doesn't do it.

I prefer using a keyboard sometimes cause all my samples are layed out and it's easier to hear a sound that I like.Yet it takes time for me to find the sample cause I gotta scroll through each bank to find it on the pad. I should be able to see it on the program KG mix page. That way I know what it is and can edit quickly if I choose.

Please help me out.

Go to pitch page, go to the low and high key highlight either one press the window key you should see the midi at the bottom turn it on and press do it. Now when you press the key board it should work. Also press shift and the keyboard to bring you to the keygroup. I highly recommend you download the Z8 menu for this it explains everything that you ask.

Actually, to select KeyGroups from a MIDI keyboard, you need to hold down the SHIFT and GO TO keys while playing the keyboard. This works in any PROGRAM KG page.

The Window in the PITCH page allows you to set the KG Span (Low and High notes) using a MIDI keyboard.

btw: when in program mode on drumpgm hitting the pad directly brings one to the sound placed on that pad making it very quick and easy to select sounds, set filter, adrs ... on keygroups shift + go to brings ya there.

question: wouldn't it be possible that keygroups are selected the same way too? (by hitting pads) imo workin with keygroups that way would be alot easier ... am i missing somethin?

that's the thing ALTO,

when you hit a pad the mpc jumps to the selected sample, yet if you play the keyboard, it does nothing. Does this mean the only way to accomplish this is by setting up keygroups? I know someone mentioned something about key span, but I don't really think that is it. (Maybe they didn't understand my question correctly.) I was wondering if it is possible to make the MPC select the sounds by not only hitting drum pads, but also hitting the keyboard notes. It would help save me so much time.

I think sean just told you that if you hold shift and goto....then the keyboard will jump to that sample. I think that should do it. I too found this to be very annoying as well when trying to find out what sound was playing.

hy there

... not sure whether there is a better way, but as i see it ...

in drumpg a sound is selected when hitting a pad or when using a keyboard u have to push shift + go to.

in keygrouppgm either way (using pads or keyboard) i have to use shift + go to to select the sound i wanna play, edit, whateva, ...

imo it would be great if there would be a similar way to select sounds for keygroup pgs as for drum pgs. (is there actually a reason why it is like this?) imo hitting pad should do it in keygrouppgms aswell, and maybe even forget about that shift + go to with keaboard, i don't see any advantage as it is now in keygrouppgms:

1. to find out what sound is playin and ...

2. i especially miss this when i wanna set up a whole keygroupprogram (ie 96 samples spread over the 6 banks in a keygrouppgm). pad assign isn't workin either - so i wonder whether i m missin somethin and how others set up keygroup pgms with ie 96 keygroups? are you converting a drumprgram to achieve this or is there an easier way i m missing? ... any help appreciated? - i just wanna set up keygroupprograms with lots of different sounds quickly ... any advice?
