Question: Zones and filters

Let's say I have a kick drum assigned to zone one and a bass tone in zone two on a particular pad. How do I go about filtering and shaping just the bass tone in zone two, without effecting the kick whatsoever

I dont think so Gigaton. The filters only affect individual samples. If your talkin about having different filters on 2 different zones in the same sample, I dont think you can do that. You have to make 2 seperate samples and apply filters to each. Then you can layer the 2 sounds on to the same pad and then adjust the trigger velocity. I hope I am understanding you right.

....or if you want one sample (the kick) to play, and then the second sample (the Bass) to play one-then-the-other on the same pad, then you should make 2 samples, filter them, and then go into the 'sample edit' page and scroll to 'join sample' or 'insert selection' and join the samples (zones).....

.....wait, maybe you dont even have to do that. I think if you use the Q link, you can choose 'zone filter' for zones 1-4. I dont know how much control you will have over the filters though. I dont do it like that myself, I just cut it, and make a seperate sample. Let us know what you find out.

Ok you confused me a bit.Check out this scenario.For instance on the 2000xl I would to assign a kick to pad A1 and a bass tone to pad A16 I could put a lowpass filter on pad A16 and then tell pad A1 to trigger pad A16 when I am playing, thus layering the filtered bass tone underneath my kick drum on A1.
*On the MPC 4000 I am layering the kickdrum on A1 with an actual sound from the sample LIST in zone edit mode, rather than layering a sound connected to a program(where it could be filtered). So I can't necessarily tweak the bass tone by itself before layering it underneath the kick. Now am I just missing something simple here? I figure there must be a way to do this. Hit me back.

I think you have to put that sound or resampled sound into a new program if you dont want it affected by the same filters already assigned to A1. Or just put it on a different pad. You can then copy the pad data from A1 throughout the sequence, and paste it to a different pad in the same program. Or you can paste it into a different track (in a new program) and assign the bass sound to A1 also. Thats all I got...

I think I do understand what you are sayin, I just dont think you can do it the way you are describing. It may be another scenario, just like 16 layer pitch, where you can do it, but you have to use a round-about way.

I want a lowpass filter on the bass tone: pad A1, zone 2

You need to assign each sound to a pad, then set the filters for each sound. Then creat a sequence and put the two sounds at 1.00.000. Go to Global set the master volume at 0dB. Go to Record and set the Region to Main out. Record the sound.

You know what, so far my way around it would be to add quick fx to the layered sound and then place the quick effected sound in zone two. You all can see my dilema here though right?? On the 2000xl it was super easy to accomplish the aformentioned task, I mean really it was very intuitive. I figured the 4k could do it as well but maybe not. I am going to try the Q link filter on zone 2, if thats an option. I haven't tried the Q-link functions yet so might as well get to it.
