how do i, if anyway possible, pad assign different sequences to record a song if I'm making any sense? Without recording through the main? on mpc 4000

I'd you mean having the ability to record your pattern changes on the fly to create a song arrangement sadly this can't be done. at least I don't thin it can be done in the 4000?

This is a feature missing from pretty much all pattern based drum machine sequencers I have used. I can understand older gear not having this feature, but it should definitely be included in modern ones such as the Ren and Maschine. After all these are supposed to be performance instruments - then let me record my pattern performance data.

ummm... this is where your 'other' midi sequencer comes in to play. not a sad thing at all. the 4000 is of course not as flexible in 'next sequence' mode as jjosxl. thats what is sad. but not by much really. and you can 'work around' the 4k's limitations as they say. not to mention that you can create a song structure in the 4k and zap it into a single sequence then play arrangement with those sequences. very flexible. maybe you need jjosxl and mpc 4k! you can run your sounds on the 4k, sequence on the 4k and jjos, perform from jjos into the 4k then work with those sequences inside the 4k or really do it any way you wanna.

Uummmmmmm
The 4k sequencer actually kicks the ass of jjos in to oblivion. Sure it may do a few moves the 4k can't but the 4k can do likewise and then some.

Using a jjos mpc to sequence the 4k is nonsense as well.

And I'm not finished......the 4ks sequencer is tighter than any jjos brew. It's basically 1 sample form being sample accurate.
Can your jjos do that...no, not even close.
And can any jjos mpc compete with the wealth of features the 4k has. Of course it can't

my goodness arent we hostile today?

not to worry: youre talking to a long time jjos user.

if i were a 4k hater i wouldnt own multiple 4ks. you obviously thought i was bashing the 4k. find your chill pills and calm yourself, theres no hating here. --well, not from me anyway.

yea, i know not really handy
can just say
play with your (track mutes) pad assigns
once you got a good one => copy to new sequence
chain into a song

must say that i use a EMU MP7 alongside the 4k
(which does allow for track mutes (etc) to be recorded in song mode)

great combo, since i can put 4k in 8bar mode, and MP7 in 6bar mode, which gives nice variations

Didn't the little emoctions give you a little clue....

@313studiotricks @labcoats @tiger001 i have tried next sequence but i need something more flexible... i see you guy speaking of jjos, i thought jjos was basically a operating system.. if it sounds like I'm VERY new 2 this.. its because I'm am. n if u guys are up for the task of saving a soul.. here's a bigger dilemma than pad sequencing, i can't figure out how to track what sequences and songs i do have from my 4k to a disk or computer. i have 2 options.. i think.. i have a 4k, and a fostex MR16 (16track mixer) which is 1 route... or i have 4k, mbox mini2, and protools. i can't get sound on either option, u guys seem like you have a lot of knowledge of the 4k and i was wondering if any of u could share some insight on the situation? any helpful replies are very much appreciated! almost tossed whole setup out of window out of frustration

whats not flexible enough about next sequence on the 4k? jjos is an os for the mpc1k and 2k5. honestly is as tight as it needs to be, and becomes tighter when slaved to 'tighter' external clock anyway. home boy up there has not a clue what hes saying and probably hasnt even used a jjos mpc in any capacity beyond hating on it.

you can get a maximum of 10 tracks out of the 4k at once, but youll need either the analog output expander or the adat and spdif cards. after you have those, youll need to either combine internal tracks if you have more than 10 in your composition or do a second pass. i personally wouldnt do everything in the 4k and leave some to outboard synths etc. youll also need a sound card with as many analog inputs or adat and spdif input. this also depends on your preference for digital vs analog handling of tracks.

midi is pretty flexible so if you have a sequencer you do like that gives you what you need, you can use it in conjunction with the 4k for different results. dont let those with mpc on the brain fool you into their narrow point of view. if they like roger linn so much, they should MARRY HIM lol

first time i played my 4k i didn't have sound either - i was .... ????

you need to assign 1 program to a multi and then that program to a track

of course you can output more than 10 tracks to 1 output (L/R for exemple) but you'll have to program that program like that too... => every sound can have its own output assign in the program (or these settings can be overridden in the multi)

if you switch back from main sequence to program, all playing tracks get the sound of that program - a feat i don't understand why it is implemented or how i can overcome (but you can get great gabbernish)
