You guys want to upgrade the convertors?

I spoke to Jim Williams of Audio Upgrades. We need some pics of the inside of the 4ooo, especially the convertor section.

Well due to the fact you can easily import/export samples via usb ect and use your own soundcard ect then this is probably a luxuary.

You could forward him the MPC4000 Service Manual as well, if he doesn't already have it.

Mine sounds fine anyways.

yeah, play it through lightpipe and convert it using a higher end sound card.

Even the sound cards you guys recommend get upgraded.

We'll see, I actually called him to do a repair on something else. We got to talking about converters and how Akai uses 2 cycle something... I dunno, he lost me when he started getting real technical. I woke me up when he said he could fatten the signal up.

He's only about an hour drive from me. Don't worry, I might get it done. You can save your reactions for later.

Where are the pics? There's got to be some floating around.

I can't help with pics, but if you follow the MPC Manuals link at the top of this forum, you can download the MPC4000 service manual, which shows the circuit diagrams and lists the AD and DA convertor chips it uses.

im down if its real. dont worry about opening it up. i have had mine broken down into parts... its not a big deal. just follow static shock protocol. touch the chassis before you touch a component. or get a wrist strap.

just curious tho, are you trying to reduce jitter with better DACs? what exactly are you attempting to improve?

ADC/DAC is kind of a black art - yes, technically and specs wise a converter should perform in a predictable and accurate manner, but they never do. Power supply stability and cleanliness is very important, and I suspect the MPC would be compromised in that area given all the stuff that's being powered inside the box.

3, you didnt take pics when it was open? It would probably be a lot cheaper for you. All you have to do is send him your convertor section.

Im not exactly sure yet. I was thinking about recording random sources between both convertors.

Well, it is Jim Williams...he has a nice rep.

Incidentally, you mention about power supplies powering "all the stuff" I read the eventide h3000 is like that. Guess what? thats why I called Jim Williams initially. Somethings up with my h3500.

You guys should talk to him. Call him, he is a business. Im almost scared to ask him how much?

A guy 'Karloff72' from gearslutz had Burl converters installed on the inputs or outputs(???) at a high cost!!!!!!he did not really notice the difference and sold his unit.lol.But i must say...it is a tempting idea...
