My 4K arrived today, but in bad shape.. Help!

Damn, I should have bought my 4K from someone on this board.

Got a 4K from ebay, thought the price was really good, supposed to have 8 outs extension and "some lines on the LCD, never bothered me enough to replace"...

...And now that I got it, the LCD is almost unusable, the jogwheel is not responding at all, and the 8 outs extension is not on the unit!! A 256MB RAM had gotten dislocated and was bouncing around inside..

The hassle of international shipping is so great that I'd really prefer to get this one fixed rather than asking for my money back. But is the jogwheel a really tricky one to replace on the 4K? Is there something that I can check first (ie. loose cable etc)

Why oh why does it have to be the jogwheel? Now how am I supposed to change any parameter values without one, as there doesn't seem to be any "+"/"-" buttons on the 4K (unlike on my 2500)??

Lost the LCD altoghether after opening up the unit but after reopening and refitting the ribbon cable I got the LCD back to where it was..

For some reason I feel pity for this machine and want to restore it to its' former glory.. The shipping and taxes for mpcstuff orders is murdering for EU, but guess there's no other way to get spare parts..?

FWIW All the lights and buttons seem to work, except for the jogwheel..

EDIT: Thank the heavens for the USB keyboard support on the 4K! I hooked up a spare USB keyboard I had lying around and indeed the plus and minus keys on a keyboard can be used to change most parameter values I need to get the jogwheel fixed eventually, but at least now I can check this baby out some.

Well, if the unit is missing parts (8 out board) and was advertised and sold as having said part I'd either get my money back or get a refund for the amount of the board.

If the price was good enough, you can just factor the cost of repairs as part of the purchase price. But as it stands, you're needing to replace hundreds of dollars worth or parts. Me, I'd get a full refund. eBay/PayPal are reall good about protecting buyers in situations like this.

I thought about this some more and have decided to return the item. It's no doubt going to be a painful chore but I suppose it'll be worth it in the long run. Thanks for your thoughts on this matter.

A shame, the 4K was really starting to grow on me - I liked the toggly beat repeats and the erase function better than on my 2k5, for example.

But where are you and where did you get this MPC4000 from?

There a consistent supply of good reasonably priced or cheap machines here since "you know what" came out in 2012. Prices do appear to have recovered slightly from their low point.

There was a load of MPC4000 parts floating around recently, being sold by a member here. Some are still available, including the screen...

I'm in Finland/EU, IIRC the seller was from NY/USA. He seemed to have a good sale rep on ebay and the price was at 545 USD, so even with the heavy shipping/taxes it seemed like a bargain.

The seller has not yet responded - I got a feeling this will get messy...

unfortunately i think anything shipped overseas that was bought on ebay is not guaranteed under their buyer protection. i could be wrong. at the very least youll need to pay for shipping back to the usa

uh, is that the one you bought tsutek?

Get inside and adjust the screen cable.Its very delicate.

I forget if the lines are vertical or horizantal. I think one is because the cable is loose. The other is a busted screen.
