Health Checking a 4000

My MPC bought off of Ebay will arrive next week after being in the hands of Fedex for a few thousand Kms.

Obviously I'm concerned about what condition it'll land in. Any hints on what I should be doing straight off to make sure I got what I paid for and it's all working?

Of course i'll check the logo first...

Stating the obvious, but use it heavily for a few days.

Test as many functions, IN's, OUT's, buttons, knobs, sliders as possible.

Test the USB, CD Rom, loading, saving, digital I/O, screen contrast, pads.

Test the FX, the filters, an ASCII keyboard, the banks, the "F" functions.

Reset the PARAMETERS to factory condition, run diagnostic checks etc.

Sample some sounds, import em, export em, try Aksys, test the SCSI even lol.

Look for the pre-loaded sounds on the HD, record the serial number of the machine.

There are a lot of functions in the MPC4000 that you may never even discover or use, so focus your immediate attention on the basics and the features you expect to use most frequently. Parts can work loose during transit, may be worth a visual inspection anyway to see what shape the machine is in internally (some machines are a mess inside).

Don't clean the machine properly until you're certain of keeping it...

my unit arrived today. looks awesome and got into diagnostics and all is good so far. any idea how to elegantly exit this mode? I just switched on and off... might be good to know for future viewers of this thread.

Pressing MAIN didn't exit from the diagnostic menu?
