About to install upgrades. Anything to be weary of?

I got my 8 outs last week and today, another 256 ram. So i guess no reason to delay any longer, time to open her up. The service manual is on hand.

It all seems pretty simple. However, the words on pg 27: Appendix: Installing storage devices (for service engineers) have eaten some of my confidence.

I've got a fair amount of Euro modules and i'm used popping them in and out of a rack. I figure this can't be much harder... Before i go in, is there anything, beyond what's written, that I should be careful of?

And another question, i understand there are 2 memory slots. I have 16MB installed and I'm assuming it use one slot. No issue to leave it in and drop the 256 in the other?

Hmm, I thought the 16MB of RAM is located somewhere else than the two RAM upgrade sockets? The RAM part is easy, just like adding RAM to an old 486 pc. Just make sure you push the RAM far enough for it to settle into the slot properly and you're good.

Regarding the 8out addon, I'd imagine that it's just a matter of connecting a ribbon cable or two onto the motherboard and slotting it into the right place? Basic oldschool pc maintenace stuff, as long as you keep the power cord disconnected and dont accidentally bend any ribbon cable connecting pins, you should be sorted.

iMO the 4k is a pleasure to open up - lots of room inside, just like in a good pc chassis

cool, it's not at all like euro rack then, which is made for the little people...

Once you get past having to remove the hundreds of screws necessary, it's all really easy.

FYI, the 16MB does use one of the 2 slots and like old PC's you can leave it in. I now have 272MB memory.

There is a 16MB memory chip is on the mainboard. when you add memory to slots this is in addition to the on board 16MB. 256MB(slots)+16MB(on board)
